  1. Heat oven to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7. Tie a piece of bacon around each sausage. Heat the oil in a flameproof roasting tin on the hob, then brown the sausages in the tin. Place in the oven and roast for 20 mins.

  2. Toss in the apple wedges and roast everything for another 10 mins until the sausages are cooked and the apples are sticky and caramelised. Serve with mash.

Delicious! Didn't bother browning, as per comments. Added honey, mustard and cinnamon when apple went it. Served with mustard and garlic new potato mash. Quick and easy, highly recommend.

After reading the comments I didn't bother to brown in a pan first. It took a few minutes longer in the oven, but at least they weren't burnt!
At the same time as I added the apples I stirred in some wholegrain mustard and drizzled it with honey. Yum....

Very tasty - didn't both browning as others have said and it was absolutely fine. Added baby potatoes too. My only complaint as such is that there wasn't very much of it. Two sausages for an adult isn't very filling - I would recommend three each.

I made this for myself this evening while my husband is away on a lad's weekend. It is the ultimate in comfort food! I browned the sausages in a pan and transferred them to a pyrex dish, as I don't have a tin I can use on the hob and in the oven but wish now that I had just put them straight in the oven. (Should have read the other comments first.) I put a baking potato in the microwave for a few minutes and finished it off in the oven with the sausages. It was divine and I will be cooking this again soon.

I took out the bacon, added some roasted butternut squash and onion and made a honey/mustard glaze for the whole thing. Delicious with garlic mash,

Very yummy midweek meal! Didn't brown anything first, and added thin-ish wedges of sweet potato and red onion with the sausages (no bacon), then apple chunks for last 15 mins. Very yummy indeed but needed the gravy we had with it! Nice and easy and not much washing up :)

Have made this several times; a firm favourite with two young boys (plus a husband!) We like it with honey drizzled over when the apples are added. Have done an up-market version with posh sausages such as Asda 'Pork & Apple' to make it a bit more grown-up!

This was gorgeous! I didn't fry them off first either- didn't want to burn the bacon. I added red onion as well and it turned out well. Didn't use any oil as it didn't need any- just a squirt of 'fry light' on the base was enough to stop everything from sticking to the pan. I served it with a leek mash, carrots and gravy. Will do it again for sure!

Tryied a variation of Danes but with frozen sausages, worked really well, Nice cheap and filling dinner!

Ooh this was absolutely scrumptious! I heated oil in roasting dish then added sausages and cut up new potatoes as someone suggested. I served it with steamed sugar snap peas. Gorgeous will definitely make this again. Oh and hubby has the leftovers for lunch today!

I made this largely to use up some of the vast overdose of apples supplied by my veg box company - it was a bit autumnal for the time of year, but tasty enough that I'll try it again later in the year (perhaps with the honey-mustard variation recommended by several people, which sounds even nicer!).

I also skipped the browning stage, and I really don't think it needs it - the sausages turned out fine just from being put in the oven.

In addition to my previous comment..
Made it again last night, this time i added baby new potatoes cut in half to make bite size pieces and added them to the pan whilst the sausages browned to give the potato colour as well.

Put the lot in the oven as per recipe, then when added the apple, mixed in runny honey and a few spoons of wholegrain mustard.

The potatoes were cooked perfectly, and the mustard and honey make a lovely glaze/sauce.

I browned the sausages in the pan the first time I tried this, but ended up with pretty burnt bacon at the end of it! Next time I didn't bother with browning and it worked perfectly. I think I'll try tossing it in honey and mustard next time as suggested by Vicky Food. Yum!

This was very warming and filling.
I think next time i will toss the sausages in a mixture of honey and whole grain mustard to give an extra ooomph to the flavour.
