  • 675g thinly sliced rump steak or fillet steak
  • 3 tbsp plain flour
  • salt and pepper
  • 50g butter
  • 225g onions thinly sliced
  • 225g mushrooms thinly sliced
  • 250ml soured cream


    1. Beat the steak slices with a rolling pin, then cut them into thin strips. Put the flour into a shallow bowl, season with plenty of salt and pepper and coat the beef strips
    2. Melt half the butter in a large heavy bottomed saucepan, add the onion slices and fry for about 10 minutes until golden.Stir in the mushrooms and continue cooking for a further 2-3 minutes, using a slotted spoon, transfer the vegetables to a dish and set aside
    3. melt the remaining butter in the pan, add the meat and fry rapidly for 2-3 minutes, turning frequently, return the vegetables to the pan and heat through for 1 minute
    4. pour in soured cream, stir once or twice, and heat for 1-2 minutes until all the ingrediants are heated through
    5. serve with new potatoes or rice and some lovely crusty homemade bread

sorry you felt like it was bland , my whole family love it and mine is always tasty if you dont use nice quality meat then it might have been bland or if you didnt season it enough i season mine loads. fillet steak even tho its expensive makes it taste lovely, never had any complaints before tho.

Rather bland and tasteless even though we added some brandy. Sorry Delia does it better!
