  1. Heat the grill to high. Heat the oil in a large pan, then gently fry the onion for 5 mins until soft. Add the tomatoes and stock, bring to the boil, then simmer for 5 mins. Season.

  2. Flake the smoked mackerel into the pan, stir, then tip the mixture into a shallow dish and sprinkle over the breadcrumbs and parmesan. Grill for 5 mins or until bubbling and golden.

Very simple & tasty supper dish. Added pasta to the sauce to fill it out a bit. Not sure that it qualifies as a pie though!

"yummy" was the reaction of my 2yr old! very simple and easy and cuz i was looking for a quick fish dish for a toddler i halved the portion sizes and served with carrots and green beans. i used capelin as id bought that from my fishmonger to use for my child as its boneless (i think it was capelin) but it worked a treat, i gently fried 2 shallots, added chopped garlic, basil, parsley n italian herbs then added the toms n stock then slightly seasoned with salt n pepper..........thumbs up :)

Great - just what it says on the recipe - a fast fish pie.

I didn't toast the breadcrumbs first as the hot grill easily did that for me in the 5 mins (probably less!)

I made the recipe as suggested but put mashed potatoes on the top instead. Really lovely. I am going to make it with smoked salmon next time for a change.
