  1. In a large saucepan, cook onion and garlic in olive oil for 5 mins until softened and turning golden. Tip in the beef strips, pepper, tomatoes and rosemary, then bring to the boil. Simmer for 15 mins until the meat is cooked through, adding some boiling water if needed. Stir through the olives and serve with mash or polenta.

Absolutely scrummy. Followed the ingredient list almost exactly. Did add some green beans and a bit of chilli and probably overdid the paprika but after cooking put in the oven at gas 6 for an hour then left overnight. When I reheated it the next day it was delicious. Super generous portion for two (wouild probably feed three) and we ate with just small new potatoes. The consistency of the sauce was perfect, really rich and the flavours were fantastic. I will definately make this again!

I popped this in the oven for an hour as suggested above and also added carrots but still found it to be quite thin and a bit bland, don't think I would do this again.

Def agree with comments, great dish..very versatile I have made it with the mash, but also with rice and pasta. I found the sauce a bit thin too but added some tomato puree and a little chilli to give it a kick. Easy to cook in minutes!

This recipe is really easy and very tasty. I too added a bit of paprika and a couple of beef stock cubes. I also added about half a glass of red wine that was left in a bottle. I will definitely make this again. Served it with nice buttery mash potato and it went down a treat!! Enjoy!

Fabulous, cheap, and very very tasty. I added courgettes and had it with some new potatoes which needed using up. Will be making this again!!!!!

This was quick and simple. However i added a few more things - added italian mixed spices and some paprika. It did need a something more - maybe will add mushrooms next time. I used 2 tins of toms and let it reduce right down making a thick sauce. I think when i make again will put in oven and let it reduce.

I doubled this recipe and served it for lunch the next day and it tasted even better.

Very easy to make. I used stewing steak and just popped it into the oven till the meat was really tender. I also added a couple more peppers that needed using. Left out the olives though!!! Proved I don't need to buy casserole mixes with goodness knows what in them!!!

To get a thicker sauce and make this with cheaper meat, just follow the recipe above but in an ovenproof dish, then chuck it into an oven for an hour or so to reduce the tomatoes and cook the beef till its really tender. Delicious!

This has become a firm staple in my house. I use 2 tins of chopped tomatoes and tend to add some cornflour to thicken up the sauce if it hasn't reduced enough. I also chuck in other vegetables that I have in the fridge so have tried this with carrots, green beans, sugarsnap peas etc. All good; a great recipe.
