Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 400g lean minced beef
  • 340g frozen peas
  • handful fresh coriander, chopped
  • brown rice, to serve (optional)

For the paste

  • 1 green chilli, deseeded and chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • thumb-sized piece ginger, chopped
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tbsp korma curry powder

For the raita

  • 200g fat-free natural yogurt
  • 100g cucumber, peeled, deseeded and diced
  • handful fresh mint chopped

Method

  1. Whizz together the ingredients for the paste in a blender or food processor – add a splash of water if you need.
  2. Cook the onion in a splash of water for about 5 mins until softened. Stir in the mince and cook for another 5 mins to brown. Add the paste, cook for 1 min, then pour in 100ml water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 mins. Add the peas then simmer for a further 5 mins.
  3. Meanwhile, mix together the raita ingredients and season to taste. When the mince is cooked, season and stir through the fresh coriander. Serve with the raita and brown rice, if you like.

A lot more seasoning is needed ie turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, fresh chilli & fresh coriander leaves- I recommend looking at The Hairy Bikers version of this receipe- much more flavoursome; this receipe is basically fried mince and peas- nothing more I'm afraid

This was a perfect recipe for me as I'm on a high protein diet with minimal fat. I really like the taste and its aways a handy dish to make in a hurry. I've made it loads of times now.

Bit bland. Did make double amount of spices, but still a bit boring...

Very easy to follow although I substituted red chillies for the green, doubled the amount of korma paste and added half a tin of tomatoes.

So easy, fast and yummy. Added a small bit of nutmeg and curry powder and ground black pepper too. Served it with couscous.

Very very disappointing, the raita was acceptable but the meat was seriously lacking in flavour and way more peas than necessary. It was in need of some more spices, I'm not sure what, and salt. I put some in although it wasn't mentioned but it needed even more to make it edible. I can't imagine what it would have been like with no salt and no rice. You'd probably have had to ask the dog.

This recipe will be going in the bin.

Made this using turkey mince and it went down a treat .Cost only £3 to make with rice - far cheaper than any take away and healthy too!!

This was really tasty, but could definately use more spice & more paste, I used medium curry powder as that was all I had and then also stuck some curry paste in it. The brown rice and raita worked brilliantly.

the classical ways is putting bay-leaf, cloves , cinnamon sticks( big ones) cloves and pepper corns, and this replaces the curry power in a way, absolutely real flavours ( and one can add tomato for teh tang) . top it with green coriander.

Really great recipe - second time I made it I added some red chilli as well. Instead of putting all the fresh coriander into the curry, I split it in half and stirred it through with the rice - very nice!
