  1. Put the flour and cardamom in a bowl and rub in the butter. Add sugar. Beat the egg in a measuring jug, then pour in milk to make it up to 100ml/3½fl oz. Pour into the bowl gradually, stirring first with a knife then with your hands, to make a soft, not sticky, dough. Knead until smooth on a floured work surface.

  2. Divide the dough into three and roll into circles the thickness of a £1 coin. Cut each into quarters. Heat a heavy-bottomed frying pan to medium hot. Cook the scones in batches for a couple of mins each side, until golden brown. Serve, spread with butter and drizzled with honey.

Delicious ! I didn't have any cardamon but I used cinnamon instead. I had to add a bit more flour because the dough was too sticky. It came out a bit dry but, the taste was great. Next time I'll add a few berries, and maybe a zest of orange or lemon.

These were very nice, though perhaps not my favourite scone recipe. The addition of cardamom was inspired - really good. The very sticky mixture was tricky to handle - somewhere between a pancake and a scone. Plus - make sure you get your pan nice and hot, or else the mixture won't rise. I will do these again.

These were really easy and taste good. I use Olive spread in most of my cooking instead of butter and have no problems. I also added about a quarter of a spoon of cinnamon instead or cardamom. I added a small handful of sultanas too. Had them warm this morning for breakfast, lovely.

Also, it's a great recipe if you replace the sugar with sweetener and use light margarine instead opf butter - this makes it almost fat free, lower in calories and unlike many sweetener recipes, it actually still tastes really good.

This is very similar to a recipe that I always use and is absolutely delicious. I ALWAYS add sultanas as they give it bursts of sweetness in every mouthful, meaning you don't need honey, just eat it with butter/margarine. It's also lovely to add orange zest and a little orange juice with the milk.
Never tried it with cardamom so will perhaps do that in the future.
