  • 3 passion fruits
  • 1 banana, chopped

Probably the best known, most popular tropical fruit, their name probably derives from the…

  • 1 small mango, peeled, stoned and chopped
  • 300ml orange juice
  • ice cubes

  1. Scoop the pulp of the passion fruits into a blender and add the banana, mango and orange juice. Purée until smooth and drink immediately, topped with ice cubes.

The author of this recipe claims that it "costs" 162 kcal (kcal!!). I calculate: 1 passion fruit: 17 calories (3 needed) :51 1 banana: 105 cal:105 100 mL OJ: 47 calories (300 mL needed):141 small mango: 107 cal:107 Total: 404 cal In other words, since the per-meal allowance for a man is 200 cal, this recipe will last for two meals. Assuming 162 kcal, then each meal would consist of 0.75 mL of smoothie.

I love finding alternatives to boxed breakfast cereal. I've just written a post all about the horrific process our cereals go through!! Crazy. Have a read!

Tastes really nice but beware the passion fruit seeds! I used frozen mango so left out the ice cubes which makes it quite gloopy, so added more orange juice and it was sorted - will make again.

It was OK. I could have done without the passion fruit seeds.
