Method

  1. Mix the crème fraîche with the horseradish and a little salt and pepper. For the dressing, whisk the lime juice and zest with the honey, ginger and seasoning, then whisk in the oil. Lay the smoked salmon and prawns on 2 plates, then top with a dollop of the horseradish cream. Toss the salad in most of the dressing and pile on top. Drizzle the remaining dressing around the plate and serve.

Sorry to be negative but the dressing was horrible. The other ingredients are great - you buy them and put them on the plate so no cookery skills needed there but the dressing was really awful and would have spoilt the expensive ingredients.

Sorry Good Food, the first time I haven't enjoyed one of your recipes.

I have made this several times now and it has always been delicious and very well received. A couple of tips worth considering are to be fairly generous with the horseradish sauce (I don't think the amount stated is nearly enough) and don't make the salad dressing very far in advance as the lovely, vibrant green of the lime zest fades really quickly (it still tastes delicious, just doesn't look quite so good). I have also fiddled around adding gravadlax instead of smoked salmon and also adding some crab in with the prawns. All variations have been equally delicious!

Made this for a dinner party and although a simple recipe, it was a great hit, especially the dressing. Everyone agreed there was too much of the horseradish/creme fraiche therefore, in future I will only put half the quantity onto the plate and the other into a small dish for people who want more.

Just made this for two and ate it in the garden on a beautiful evening. Very very tasty. Just right for people like me who are not the best cooks and get flustered with too many courses/too many ingredients/too much cooking etc. My partner (who is rather fussy) said it was sublime. It was really really good. I'm giving it a 4 star just because it's quite expensive to make.

This recipe is absolutely divine! The flavours work incredibly well together and balance eachother perfectly. It is a very refreshing starter that looks elegant too. Would recommend this to anyone who loves smoked salmon/prawns or fish in general :)

This was quite a nice dish but I have the best prawn recipe! Its so simple:

get your prawn and put them in a tub or bag or whatever
chop 4 cloves of garlic generous amout of chilli and ginger and some coriander put that in the tub then add a good amount of sweet chilli sauce and shake it up and just leave it to sit with a tid on for about 10mins longer if you wish then fry them not all at once but when they are fryed put them all back in the pan and add some more sweet chilli sauce and then remove from the pan and finally cook some noodles and add some sweet chilli sauce to those and serve with the prawns its seroisly the best prawns you will ever have.

This is everything a starter should be, simple, elegant with some lovely clean flavours that get the taste buds truly zinging. Made it last night for a small dinner party and it was a big hit.

I prepared this last night for 4 adults & 4 kids - my first attempt! & WOW!! What a flavour combination! Everybody loved it!
I thought though, that the salmon was a little overpowering. Next time, I will try marinated salmon- the taste is much more suttle!
