  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • 200ml vegetable stock
  • 150g block straight-to-wok wheat noodle, or equivalent of dried, cooked
  • splash Worcestershire sauce


  1. In a small non-stick pan, fry the bacon for a few mins, add the white parts of the spring onions, peas and paprika, then cook for 1 min more. Mix the cornflour with a little of the stock to get a paste, then stir this into the pan with the rest of the stock, noodles and a good splash of Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for a couple of mins until thick and saucy, then scatter with the green parts of spring onion.

Really delicious and hard to get wrong. Plus it's one of the few noodle dishes on here that uses common ingredients, so it's perfect for when you realise you're hungry and the shop is closed.

i tried this but swapped the bacon for lightly grilled chicken breast cut into small pieces and it was amazing would also recommend swapping the worchester sauce for soy sauce and adding a touch of chilli

This is a huge hit with my fiancé and I - we sometimes add extra ingredients (diced sweet peppers, mushrooms and chilli flakes).

I really like this; I get to eat super noodles while not feeling guilty about it :p I replaced the smoked bacon for normal bacon though and I use onion rather than spring onion. I love how it's so cheap and ridiculously idiot proof.

Quick and easy to make as a good snack, but definitely not as a main. I thought it was quite nice, but my husband found it way too bland for his tastes.

The timings are way out, so leave aside at least 25 minutes for this (in my experience). I couldn't quite get the paste, though I assume this was my fault, but it appears to have made no particular difference to the taste (again, this might just be me). The meal does not scale well, though.

I had to use chicken stock instead of vegetable stock, sweet chilli sauce instead of paprika, and soy sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce and it turned out really nice.

I also used a wok and a wok ring, anyone having trouble thickening it should use that as it evaporates the excess water very quickly :)

not great, found the cornflour didn't thicken it very much too watery for my taste.

Really easy and very tasty. Have done this a few times now. I use a bit more stock than listed and also add some fresh sliced chili if I have any or tabasco if I don't.

Just made this; very good! Plain flour works fine if you have no cornflour and I added a little chilli just to give it a kick. I had to use more stock than is indicated in this recipe but that could be down to the type of noodles I used. Will be making it again!

such an adaptable recipe...can pretty much throw in whatever veg i have ...always have noodles and chicken stock in the back of the cupboard so great for when time is of the essence!

I made this but added soy sauce and chilli, mushrooms and yellow pepper, chinese five spice, ans sweet chilli sauce, it definitely needed it. It would have been bland without it, but the end result was so delicious, and it took 10 mins from start to finish. I made extra and had the leftovers for lunch the next day. Will defo be making again.

I used dried rice noodles instead of straight-to-wok wheat noodles which worked really well but I did have to briefly cook them first.

I found the dish a little bland over all so I added some extra chilli to mine and but cut out the Worcester Sauce as I didn't have any in the house.

Using 200ml of stock made it a little too salty for my taste and so would use 1/2 a stock cube not a full one.

I will defiantly do this one again but with modifications.

fry the noodles in oil and add melted chocolate
