  1. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, then fry the onion gently for 5 mins. Turn up the heat and add the chicken, frying for about 3 mins until golden.

  2. Stir in the spices and lemon zest, fry for 1 more min, then tip in the chickpeas and stock. Put the lid on and simmer for 5 mins.

  3. Season to taste, then tip in spinach and re-cover. Leave to wilt for 2 mins, then stir through. Squeeze over the lemon juice just before serving.

Mmm, gorgeous, different to plain old chicken. Wish I had put more spinach in it though, as it does boil down. Has a lovely tangy, spicy flavour. Was just enough for 4.
Will be cooking this again soon. Served it with cous cous

Love this recipe, found it a couple of weeks ago and since then I made it every week !!! Instead of a cinnamon stick I simply used powder (1 tsp). Cooked it for my parents and made some couscous to go with it and it worked beautifully. I definitely recommend it !

I used 4x the spice portion per per person and ground cinnamon, kale instead of spinach and served with mashed sweet potato and carrot.

Great dish.. Takes a fair tad longer than 3 mins to get all nicely golden... boiled up a few potatoes cut into small cubes and added with spinach picked up some nice flavour...

I love this recipe. It makes a clean tasting, fragrant, delicious meal. I make it with 2 chicken breasts rather than 4 and bulk it up a bit with sliced chestnut mushrooms. Makes 4 single portions which reheat brilliantly. Served with steamed wholemeal couscous and a little spicy mango chutney on the side it's low fat, low calorie, it's a winner!

So delicious, I'm not sure why so many people found it without flavour as I thought it was the opposite! I added garlic and some green beans and was very generous with spices and seasoning and it came out great.

Me and my two boys really loved it. They even ate the spinach. It was a bit bland so could do with spicing up but perfect for kids. Would add more spices next time.

This dish just needs a little help with some spices - this is what i did: add 3 crushed cardamom pods /seeds and three cloves chopped garlic at end when frying, then with spices add 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp chili powder, 1/4 C minced coriander /cilantro; then with liquid add the lemon rind that has been sliced into about 6 pieces (you can remove later or eat), a handful of cherry tomatoes and handful of tart green olives. Simmer and add the spinach. When ready to serve throw some browned pine nuts or almond slivers on top. It is FABULOUS! can serve w rice, couscous or just plain with garlic naan. I also had some lemon infused oil that i used with corn oil to fry - it added some nice flavor.

Very quick to make. I used chicken thighs because they have more flavour and are moister than breast meat. Otherwise, I followed the recipe and seasoned to taste. I just served it with crusty bread. This was wonderful the next day.

tasted exactly how it looked - BLAND. was surprised that even with the amount of spice and seasoning, it still managed to taste like nothing and gave a very funny after taste

Really tasty! Added garlic and might use ground cinnamon next time as the cinnamon stick didn't really have enough to to infuse

Read the advice and added extra cumin, coriander and chilli. I also put in a clove of garlic. The dish has loads of flavour (what are those guys doing wrong?). Only gets 4 star because there really is not enough time for the spices to sink into the dish. Leftovers might well taste better.... But delicious - quick - easy - cheap. Healthy too.

Easy to make but disappointing. To watery and sloppy for me, if I make it next time ill drain a little of the lemony juice and add it to some couscous to make it more filling. Whilst low in calories and fat you only get two ladles full from the recipe so its not really a main meal on it own and needs more substance.

I made this last night and followed the recipe exactly and it was flavourless and awful. I always try to stick to a recipe at first and then change it afterwards, but I think I just wouldn't make this ever again. The people who really liked it must have added in extras.

I was really disappointed. Course, it's easy to make but the chicken was super dry, the taste was bland and nothing really went together. I can't really think of anything to improve this, just give up and move on.

Tasty and easy to do. Healthy and filling. Added couscous to bulk it up. Equally nice with rice.

Tasty, quick and simple... perfect weeknight meal. Serve with couscous for a traditional moroccan taste. i definitely will be cooking this again!
