Ingredients

  • 6 rashers smoked back bacon
  • 9 slices square wholemeal bread
  • 200g pack light soft cheese
  • 1 carrot, grated

    Carrot

    ka-rot

The carrot, with its distinctive bright orange colour, is one of the most versatile root…

  • 1 Little Gem lettuce (about 6 leaves)
  • 12 cucumber slices (optional)
  • 2 tomato, sliced

    Tomato

    toe-mart-oh

A member of the nightshade family (along with aubergines, peppers and chillies), tomatoes are in…

Method

  1. Heat grill to medium high and grill the bacon for 5 mins, turning once. Lightly toast the bread, then cut off the crusts.

  2. Mix the soft cheese with the grated carrot and spread over 6 slices of the toast. Top 3 of these with lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes, then a plain slice of toast.

  3. Put 2 rashers of bacon on top of each stack, then top the sandwiches with the rest of the cheese-spread toast, cheesy side down. Push a paper-topped (for safety) cocktail stick into each side of the sandwich, about 3cm in from each corner. Cut each sandwich into four triangles. Keep together and wrap in cling film until just before serving.

Dear Charlee and Kian, I attempted making this with the lettuce and mayo but to my satisfaction I didn't enjoy them! That's only my personal opinion though! Sorry if I offended anyone guys! Don't mean to start anyone controversial

I made these for my daughter and her friend for tea and they ate them. Maybe if kids werent pandered to and asked what they wanted to eat, they would eat more.Yes kids can be fussy, but if it is made clear there is nothing else if they dont eat up, they soon get the message.

Contrary to popular belief, children will and do eat these ;)

I made them for my daughter's birthday party and they were loved by adults and kids (between the ages of 3 and 9) alike. I substituted the bacon for ham because I couldn't be bothered to faff about cooking and cooling bacon, and left out the tomatoes because they make bread go soggy.... but other than that, huge hit!

I made these for my daughters 5th birthday party - 40 children aged 3-8 made very short work of them, I didn't even get a look in! The only thing I done differently was leave out the carrot and swap bacon for ham to save time more than anything. Will be making them again for my other daughters birthday.

I have siblings all younger than me, and I also babysit for young children, and these kids aren't that fussy. But I highly doubt they would eat this. I find most kids don't enjoy big sandwiches, they like it simple. But then again, maybe if you took out the tomatoes and replaced the bacon with ham and put it on some hovis best of both it might make it a little more enjoyable for kids.

All and all, a nice enough recipe, but kids like it simple ~

I wouldn't even eat this now, let alone as a child! No child I know would eat this. Most Good Food recipes are great for sneaking in healthy food, but just wouldn't work. It looks nice, but there's no way I would make it for myself, or anyone else.

unfussy children would happily eat these.

Excuse me but I have children and I don't think they would or any child would like to eat this at any form of party?!
