  • 85g porridge oats
  • 85g desiccated coconut
  • 100g plain flour
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 100g butter, plus extra butter for greasing
  • 1 tbsp golden syrup
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Put the oats, coconut, flour and sugar in a bowl. Melt the butter in a small pan and stir in the golden syrup. Add the bicarbonate of soda to 2 tbsp boiling water, then stir into the golden syrup and butter mixture.
  2. Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour in the butter and golden syrup mixture. Stir gently to incorporate the dry ingredients.
  3. Put dessertspoonfuls of the mixture on to buttered baking sheets, about 2.5cm/1in apart to allow room for spreading. Bake in batches for 8-10 mins until golden. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

I made these for the first time today, added a tablespoon of peanut butter, tablespoon of ground almonds and some dried fruit shavings....absolutely gorgeous :)

Made these for the first time today, really easy, followed the recipe exactly only cooked at 160, slight error in the printing, my husband sat on a chair in front of oven for 8 mins exactly, to make sure they were as perfect as his mum cooked! made 20 and were gone in less than an hour Fab will definitely make again

Very quick and easy to make. I followed the recipe and didn't need to add anything and they turned out beautifully. Where it says 'put dessertsoons on tray' I found that I had to roll them into balls a little bit between my hands but they definitely stuck together because they were quite buttery. No problem to roll them into balls. Will definitely make them again.

Quick ... Simple ... Tasty ; what's not to like about these?! I made them a few days ago including cranberries and a splash of milk. However, they didn't turn out exactly as I would have liked. When I felt them in the oven they were soggy so kept them in the oven. In the end they were 'crispy' . Also they spread very quickly on the trays. But I know have a biscuit tin of crumbs which no one wants to eat.

I made these in a jiffy and they were eaten up in the same speed!! I didn't have to add any milk to my mixture as it was moist enough.

Is there an error with this recipe.Oven temperature says 160deg for gas and 180 for fan oven.Should this not be the other way around.You should set your fan oven temperature 10-20 deg lower than in a conventional oven

I also had to add milk-about 3 tbsp and added cranberries as suggested. I put the mixture in the fridge for about 10 mins and they were a lot easier to handle. Turned out great.

My whole family love these, ive made 6 batches so far, i added poppy seeds, ground almonds, granary flour instead of normal and sultanas, love love love !!!

These are so simple to make that I can't understand the comments regarding issues some have had. They are tasty and my family really love them in fact they ask me when are you making them again. Yes I agree you do need to add a little liquid (milk) but thats just about adapting recipes as needed. Overall yummy biscuits loved by most.......

Having read other contributors' suggestions, I added dried cranberries & raisins to the mixture. When they were just out of the oven, I put a giant chocolate button on the top of each one. Delicious!

Just baked these, I used only 50g of light brown sugar and half of teaspoon of bic of soda. These were delicious! Please can we have more healthy snack ideas for lunch boxes!

75 gm coconut
80 gm castor sugar
1tbs honey
Added....poppy seeds, linseed, sultanas and dried cranberries.
Baked in flapjack tin for 30 min.
Not chewy and not too sweet.
Lovely texture and taste

Delicious biscuits! I doubled the recipe and added dried cranberries and white chocolate chunks. Like others, the mixture did seem a little dry and didn't hold together brilliantly but after 14 minutes in the oven they were perfect!

These are lovely! I took the advice from previous comments and increased the syrup to 2tbsp and added 1 tbsp of honey. Also I used dark brown sugar as had lots to use up. Have made 3 times now and they haven't really lasted much into day 2 .....

Firm favourite with everyone in my house. Made these many times and never had to change a thing. The mixture may appear a bit dry when spooning onto the baking tray but just need to use your hands to press it together.

Fabulously easy and wonderfully tasty. They do taste a wee bit too buttery for me so i may cut that down a little next time, it may be that i use cheap butter though. Saying that - they disappeared fast and now in my favourite recipes collection.
