  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Put the oats, coconut, flour and sugar in a bowl. Melt the butter in a small pan and stir in the golden syrup. Add the bicarbonate of soda to 2 tbsp boiling water, then stir into the golden syrup and butter mixture.

  2. Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour in the butter and golden syrup mixture. Stir gently to incorporate the dry ingredients.

  3. Put dessertspoonfuls of the mixture on to buttered baking sheets, about 2.5cm/1in apart to allow room for spreading. Bake in batches for 8-10 mins until golden. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Baked in flapjack tin for 30 min.
Not chewy and not too sweet.
Lovely texture and taste

Delicious biscuits! I doubled the recipe and added dried cranberries and white chocolate chunks. Like others, the mixture did seem a little dry and didn't hold together brilliantly but after 14 minutes in the oven they were perfect!

forgot to rate and also to say that I halved the amount of sugar. Very hard to resist eating the lot!

These are lovely! I took the advice from previous comments and increased the syrup to 2tbsp and added 1 tbsp of honey. Also I used dark brown sugar as had lots to use up. Have made 3 times now and they haven't really lasted much into day 2 .....

Firm favourite with everyone in my house. Made these many times and never had to change a thing. The mixture may appear a bit dry when spooning onto the baking tray but just need to use your hands to press it together.

Fabulously easy and wonderfully tasty. They do taste a wee bit too buttery for me so i may cut that down a little next time, it may be that i use cheap butter though. Saying that - they disappeared fast and now in my favourite recipes collection.

I made 2.5 batches of these, and found that the ones I baked on un-buttered parchment paper lining the tin came out the best. I then decided to try baking them without the paper and on a buttered tray as the parchment batch were quite difficult to prise off the paper. The buttered tin batch baked too quickly on the edges and were not as even in golden-ness, so I may reduce the temperature to 170 deg C. There was a bitter taste at the end, although that may be from the coconut and how they are meant to taste.
Anyhow, they were tasty, and very easy to make... next time I will try lightly buttering the paper next time and see how they turn out.

I didn't have any coconut so used sesame seeds instead - very lovely. Really easy to make, will be doing these again.

Delicious, easy to make biscuits but mine needed about 5 mins longer than the recipe says and I might add a bit more syrup next time

Love this recipie and so do my two girls!!

One hint I have though (possibly everyone else knows this already)
A) Read the whole thing before you start or you will get it wrong!
B) use a much bigger sauce pan than you initially think - when you add the bi carb it froths mightily - first time I made these I got frothy golden syrup all over the place!

Enjoy - They are great with a cuppa!!

these biscuits would have been lovely if I hadn't put 1 table spoon of bic soda ! I should have put I tea spoon . so annoyed , going to try again .

Simply delicious and so easy to make! I wouldn't change anything in the recipe, I believe it works out perfectly. My family and work colleagues love it every time I bake these biscuits.

Very easy to make and they taste absolutely fantastic!

The only criticism I'd make if I was being really, really picky is that it would have been good to be told they are a chewy biscuit in the description!! I worried I'd done something wrong until I found some other reviewers mentioning the chewiness!! - Like I said, really picky! :)

I totally agree with other comments this was a very dry mixture so added more butter/syrup and a bit of milk too. They also too longer to bake then 10 minutes nearer 15. Tasted good though...

Delicious! The biscuits have not long been out of the oven and three have been eaten already. I gave the bicarbonate a quick mix before adding it to the butter and flattened the biscuits halfway through cooking. I also brushed chocolate over the tops as we still had Easter eggs in the house! Very easy to make, will definitely become a favourite recipe.

Delicious, healthier option than chock biscuits for the kids lunch boxes. Kids loved them! Quick and easy to make.

We love these. I add a handful of chopped flaked almonds, a handful of mixed dried fruit, and a handful of dried cranberries, then bake in a brownie tin and cut into squares. They're so easy to make and taste really good. They get the thumbs up from us!
