Method

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.

  2. Put the mince into the mixing bowl. Add the onions, garlic, curry powder, cumin, garam masala, paprika or cayenne pepper and coriander, then mix well. By adding these spices, you’ll get a delicious flavour without having to add any salt.

  3. Add the beaten egg and breadcrumbs, then mix again.

  4. Divide the meat mixture into 15-18 evensized pieces and shape into balls (they should be about the size of a walnut). Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat so you don’t transfer any germs that may be on the meat to other food or equipment.

  5. Heat the oil in the frying pan over a medium heat and add the meatballs using a spoon. Cook them for 5 mins, turning until golden brown. Remove from the pan and place them on to the tray. Bake in the oven for 15-20 mins.

  6. Remove from the oven. Remember to use oven gloves! Allow to cool slightly and serve with a fresh, crisp green salad, some pitta bread and tomato salsa.

We tried these for the first time this week and they were delicious. Just the right amount of heat unless you're really metal in which case just add a finely chopped red chilli. We don't fry much in our house so I baked them in our fan oven for 10 minutes at 180° and they crisped up perfectly with a juicy inside. These have a decidedly Asian flavour so we served them with a raita made from Greek yogurt and mint sauce to cut through the heat. This recipe is definitely a keeper

I will try this but found it strange that the recipe went to the trouble of explaining why these spices were added, the importance of washing hands, using oven gloves but doesn't tell you what you're supposed to do with the medium onion, apart from add to the mixture. I will probably chop it first!

Great recipe. I didn't call it spicy meatballs when I described it to my adult daughter as I knew she would say she wouldn't like it for her lunch. I just called it meatballs in sauce ( I followed the tip above to make a sauce). She took some to work for her lunch and loved it. I'm not keen on meatballs but my husband and myself really enjoyed this recipe!

My son who is 8 and I made this receipe last night. The whole family loved it even my 4 yr old!! If I was making his just for my husband and I I would make it more spicy, but this receipe was perfect for the kids.

This is a really good way to perk up turkey mince which can be a bit lacking in flavour - the spices mean that you don't need to add much salt but they are definitely better with a bit of sauce to add moisture! I didn't bother frying them - it's not needed, why make extra washing up ;-)

I made this a few days back for my boyfriend. I served with it noodles. I didn't had any greens to add to the noodles. So I added some food coloring to some noodles(a handful of noodles) and it worked really well. So this recipe is a super recipe. I also added more of dried chilli flakes and some extra pinch of salt too.Now I don't have to go for processed meatball packs. I can make my own.. :) !!! Thanks all the way..!!!!

Our favourite meatballs - but do need seasoning and extra spice. My husband loves making a meatball sandwich out of the leftovers the next day. Usually use lamb but beef is ok too.

Made this last night and it was lovely. I did add more of the spices and was glad I did, because it would have been bland as mentioned by JMOD1720. Also added a touch of black pepper.

Very tasty. I do not use curry powder, so added more garam masala, which is of course mixed spices anyway, so why buy yet another spice mix?? We did like these, and served with a pilau rice and dall.

These are delicious. I make them with turkey mince, and do a tomatoey sauce and pasta with them. Absolutely wonderful :)
