  1. Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5. Line 12 bun tins with paper cases. Put the flour, sugar, spice, butter, eggs and milk into a mixing bowl and beat with an electric hand whisk or wooden spoon for 2-3 mins, until the mix is light and fluffy.

  2. Put a spoonful of cake mix in each case, then a rounded tsp of mincemeat. Cover the mincemeat with a spoonful of cake mix and smooth.

  3. Bake for 15-18 mins until golden brown and firm. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm or cold.

Yum! Just made these, helped by my 4 year old daughter, and we loved them. We will definitely be making these again for our Christmas party on Saturday -maybe adding a bit more mincemeat this time.....

I made these for the school christmas fayre and they went down a storm. I used the 'Sandham Family Mincemeat' with them which is a firm family favourite. I will be using the recipe as part of my mincemeat christmas pressies instead of just putting a normal mince pie recipe.

sobia, mincemeat can be bought ready made in jars, it is a mixture of dried fruits and spices, not to be confused with savoury mince.

These are a fantastic alternative to those who don't like mince pies. They never last long when I make them every year. If you like a bit of extra kick, add a dessert spn of brandy to the mince first, and grating in an apple adds extra flavour and keeps them super moist.

These cakes are lovely. Light and tasty and great with a cup of tea. A great alternative to mince pies, I will defineately make these again and not just for Christmas!

Just made these cakes...lovely and so easy to make..I had made my own mincemeat so they tasted even better...I did add alot of cinnamon as i love the taste,,,..,perfect easy recipe..x

Sobia, i use a jar of tesco finest mincemeat. put a teaspoonful straight from the jar onto the cake mix, then cover with the rest of the mix,they are lovely.

i dont know much about cooking n baking, this recipe is attracting yet difficult for me to use. As i dont know what to do with mince, is it raw or cooked and what spices are added to the mixture. Can someone guide me in this regard?

I froze a couple of batches last year to keep me going over xmas, will do the same this year. I topped each one with a walnut too!

Took them out of the freezer and straight into the microwave as needed, served warm with a bit of squirty cream or ice cream, lovely!

I just got through making these, I made them in tiny muffin cases as a canape idea, it made 50 of them! Actuary it made 51, but I had to taste one…warning, please wait before eating, hot mince meat filling can burn your tongue!

They were so easy to make and delicious. I think I must have had small cake/bun tins as I made 12 but they would have looked better if they were smaller and I had made 14/16
Will make them again, a great way to finish a jar of mincemeat.

Lovely little cakes - much nicer than they look in the photo. I made mine in mini muffin tins and they were great. Will definitely make again next Christmas.

Have made these every christmas since 2005 and they go down a treat. Very simple to make, without the hassle of rolling out pastry.

I made these instead of mince pies and they were lovely - were more like muffins than the picture. One was left for Father Christmas - only crumbs left!
