Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 400g pack sausages
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 250g lentils (we used puy lentils)
  • 150ml vegetable stock
  • 125ml red wine or extra stock

Method

  1. Heat oil in a pan, cook the sausages until browned, then remove. Tip in remaining oil, onion, garlic and pepper, then cook, about 5 mins more until softened. Add lentils and sausages to the pan with the stock and wine, if using.
  2. Bring up to the boil, then simmer for 20 mins until lentils have softened and sausages are cooked through. Serve with plenty of crusty bread.

Very tasty, and a success with all the family, but...it definitely needs 40 mins cooking for lentils, and double the amount of stock + wine to give a bit of juice (particularly if served with crusty bread).

Lentils just do not feature in my diet ever and I really wanted to give them a try. This was a fab way to do it and my boyfriend was pleased with the result too. It was tasty and very filling - although I did serve it with mash as well. The only down side was that the lentils took more like 40 mins to cook which doesn't make it such a convenient week night meal. Also, didn't think there was enough sauce if I stuck to the measurements above. I will definitely make again though. The lentils were lovely and sweet! A guilt-free way to eat sausages.

Wow! Goodfood have done it again. A reciepe that I tried simply cos i had some sausages to use up and it blew my mind! I wasn't sure there was going to be enough flavour so added some thyme, but i think it would have been fine without.

I simmered it for about half an hour and that cooked the lentals till they were al dente. I think anymore would have turned them to mush.

Great mid week reciepe too, took about five minutes to prepare.

i made 1/2 recipe with meaty saus and 1/2 with veggie... (separate pans) it was fine but as expected lentils took a good 45 minutes to cook (used puy) and loads more liquid than than advised here...

will def make it again (in fact, it's likely to become a weekly staple) with the following changes: would put a couple of peppers rather than just one, and probably some sliced mushrooms too... also, cos it will be a mid week, after work tea, i'll be using tinned lentils so cooking time should hit around 30mins...

Really tasty!! Although the sauce did not thicken as much as it looks like it should on the picture. Also i did not have any red wine, and although it was great without, i think it would proably benefit from it, for taste and appearence!! So easy though, lentils are my new favourite food!!

Tasty!
It took a while to cook the lentils though. Not quite as quick as I first thought.
I added some strips of bacon but didn't have any peppers on the day.
Will probably make again.

Really delicious with loads of crusty bread and a good glass of red. Used beef sausages and the combination of red wine with stock made the sauce lovely and rich and a great complement to the sausages. Definitely a quick but tasty favourite!

Tasty thing to have if you're in the mood for sausages with a twist. Thanks to lentils surprisingly filling too, so make more and store away for a quick breakfast / lunch.

I didn't have any red pepper so I made this with one grated carrot instead. I added some dried thyme and served it with green cabbage and a mixture of mash potatoes and swede. By using low fat sausages and dry frying the onions, I can eat this on my low fat diet.

Really delicious, tasty comfort food! Would def make again. Used pork and caramelised onion sausages which gave a really nice flavour to the lentils.

This proved to be a winner, even for the OH who is normally "anti-pulse". Fantastic depth of flavour. Definitely one for the binder!

A really filling meal that is perfect with a large glass of red on a cold night in - I found it easy to make for lots of friends too. Yum!

I doubled the stock - used two veg oxo, a pack of Tescos finest pork and leek sausages, one 250g Merchant Gourmet pack of pre cooked puy lentils and three cloves of garlic along side the other ingredients listed. I grilled the sausages to brown them, cooked the lentils according to the instructions for the hob and chucked them in for the last five minutes (time from when stock added to end was 20 mins). Served with some pre cut runner beans and it was absolutely delicious!
