Method

  1. Heat the oil in a pan, throw in the onion and cook for a couple of minutes. Stir in the garlic, tomatoes, chilli and sugar. Season with salt and pepper and bring to the boil. Give it a good stir, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, bring a large pan of salted water to the boil. Add the pasta and cook according to packet instructions. Flake the tuna into the sauce and heat through. Drain the pasta, return to the pan and stir in the sauce and basil leaves if you have any. Serve with a generous grinding of pepper.

I have just made this for our dinner tonight, (I made it to hot) with to much chilli, it was lovely, I followed the recipe to a t, Other comments state about the no use off suger, suger is added to the acid out off the tomatos, tomato purée can be used to. Deffo on my menu for a quick and easy dinner, with cupboard ingredience.

I made this at the weekend for a light lunch. It's great for using up store cupboard food. I omitted the sugar, just no need to add sugar. I added Black Olives, oregano and sun-dried tomatoes. As I am a veggie I dished my food up before adding the tuna to the dish and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. It's quick and tasty so a perfect combination. Great for a cold lunch the next day - if you manage to leave any that is...Thank you :-)

Suger is added to take away the acid from th tomatos, u can also use tomato purée.

Pretty good: I omitted the sugar (what's that all about?) and added a smidge of peperoncino. My one and three yr olds wolfed it down. I added capers, olives and a good sprinkle of Tabasco in my portion and used tagliatelle instead of bows as the sauce clings to the pasta better and it was pretty tasty actually

Absolutely superb! A bit of cheese on the top and only 300g pasta made the perfect dish. I also added a splash of Worcester sauce to the mix which gave it a nice bit of tang. Amazing!

Just made this dinner, it's lovely, I popped a wee bit cheese on top, but did not alter at all, thanks for sharing , this will be on the menu again.

Great store cupboard recipe. Added cheese & my fussy toddler loved it too! 500g is way too much pasta 300g was more than enough

Just made this for lunch for me and my hubby. Followed the recipe exactly just with less pasta (300g). Made plenty with some left for my lunch tomorrow. Hubby added cheese but i had it as is and we both found it very tasty. Will definately make again :)

Thus is a super quick tea and surprisingly delicious. Made using penne and lazy basil paste. Will definitely make again.

Use 300g of pasta, completely miss out the tuna (I feel it clashes with the tomatoes-replace with bell pepper and or courgette), Under cook the pasta by 2 minutes,-the pasta absorbs the excess moisture in the oven bake ; bake in the oven on gas mark 6 for twenty minutes covered with about 100g medium mature cheese.
