  • 1 tbsp golden syrup


  1. Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5. Peel, core and thinly slice the apples and mix with the jam and orange juice. Spread evenly over a buttered 1.5-litre ovenproof dish, not too deep.

  2. Mix the oats, flour and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the butter in small chunks and rub in gently. Stir in the sugar and rub in again. Drizzle over the syrup, mixing with a knife so it forms small clumps. Sprinkle evenly over the apples and bake for 30-35 mins until the juices from the apples start to bubble up. Cool for 10 mins, then serve with custard, cream or ice cream.

Amazing! Il never make normal apple crumble again.
The topping could just be a flapjack recipe but the apples just make it delicious.
Its a stoke of genius to use apricot jam with the apples!

I make it with Golden delicious apples, and instead of muscovado sugar, I use dark brown sugar, and instead of golden syrup I use honey.

Always popular with my kids, takes me (a single father) about 45 minutes to make.

Totally Scrummy !! Did not use the apricot jam but soaked a big handful of sultanas in orange juice and added them to the apples with an extra pinch of cinnamon sprinkled over :o)

The second time I made it I made half as much again of the crumble topping and added 3 tablespoons of golden syrup as the chewy clusters were a big hit the first time round, highly recommend to others to try this recipe !!

This is such a delicious take on apple crumble. Very very easy to do with a superb result. Absolutely delicious - topping comes out crunchy, chewy and soft in places - fantastic. Definately make again.

I have made a similar crumble many times but substitute a light olive oil for the butter and find that just as effective and certainly more healthy
A crumble is such a wonderful way of persuading children to eat more fruit

Before coming across this page, I've made something similar many times. I use cooking apples from my garden such as Bramleys, with cinnamon and sugar, but never golden syrup as I think this would be over sweet.

My family enjoy it with ice cream, hot custard, cream or plain yoghurt!

I did this today for pudding for my family it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. I would definately do this again but next time I would cut down on the sugar as it was a little sweet.

I often make a crumble for dessert when I have guests at home. This is just delicious. I served it with vanilla ice cream and all of it disappeared.
