  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 125ml maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 300g rolled oats
  • 50g sunflower seed
  • 4 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 50g pumpkin seeds
  • 100g flaked almond
  • 100g dried berries (find them in the baking aisle)
  • 50g coconut flakes or desiccated coconut

  1. Heat oven to 150C/fan 130C/gas 2. Mix the oil, maple syrup, honey and vanilla in a large bowl. Tip in all the remaining ingredients, except the dried fruit and coconut, and mix well.

  2. Tip the granola onto two baking sheets and spread evenly. Bake for 15 mins, then mix in the coconut and dried fruit, and bake for 10-15 mins more. Remove and scrape onto a flat tray to cool. Serve with cold milk or yogurt. The granola can be stored in an airtight container for up to a month.

I have been using this recipe for some time now. I started to leave out the berries in a effort to reduce the sugar. It saves around 4g of sugar per portion.

This seems incredibly high in sugar to be considered "healthy". I only used 40ml of maple syrup and added some cinnamon and a bit of extra veg oil instead; still tasted very sweet. Lovely flavours and nice for a treat but I wouldn't eat it every day.

Just made this using sweet freedom instead of maple as I started making it before I realised I didn't have any maple! Left out nuts due to having none in. Just used raisins and diced dried apricot, pumpkin and sunflower and although it took at least 40 mins (poss due to sweet freedom), it has come out crunchy and yummy. Not in clusters but more like Dorset cereals' honey granola, which is really what I was after. Youpi! Will make again (even though it's quite ££!)!

Simple but delicious, following suggestions on here I substituted vegetable oil for olive oil and maple syrup for agave nectar. I used a seed mix and also added pecans, banana chips some cinnamon and nutmeg. Baked it for ~15-20 mins more than recommended too so it was extra crunchy. I plan on having it with yoghurt and fresh fruit so didn't add any dried fruit this time but like the sound of dried cranberries and blueberries!! Yum

I've replaced 2/3 of syrup and honey for boiled and mashed dates and added some cinnamon, taste great!

I also find this takes longer to cook - twice as long for a lovely crunchy, toasty flavour that sticks together in clumps. I usually use a mix of sultanas/raisins/currants or whatever dried fruit I have in but still only add it 10 - 15 minutes before the end otherwise it goes too hard. It's a great recipe to vary the mix of fruit, add nuts too, use coconut oil for a change. It may cost a little more than ready made (although I'm not sure if you chose a good quality one anyway) but you know exactly what goes into it and no nasties so worth every penny and bit of effort.

Excellent granola, which I make every weekend for the family. Couple of comments:

- if like me you have a house full of teenage kids you'll need 2 or 3 times the quantities to last a week

- cheap option it isn't at all, but to give the family a good start to the day well worth it

- I find best for the dried fruit is a mix of blueberries, cranberries and cherries, topped up with raisins to keep the cost down

- desiccated coconut kind of works at a pinch but well worth sourcing coconut flakes

- stick with the quantity of maple syrup :)

- maybe just my oven, but I find it takes a bit longer than given to get the right crunch

Best ever granola! Replaced the sesame seeds with linseed and the dried berries with currants as I didn't have them in the cupboard! Cooked the 2 trays for about 25-30 min more than said in the recipe to make sure it was crunchy! It worked wonders and I am loving it! Makes servings of 50g and served with live yogurt and fresh fruit, it doesn't need any extra sugar or anything else!

Wow! My first homemade granola, so yummy! I can't believe how easy it was to make..
and it's healthy. My kitchen smells wonderful!
I used coconut oil butter instead of vegetable oil.

Fantastic granola! Have made it half a dozen times and it's always been great. I prefer to serve mine with yoghurt and fresh fruit so usually leave out the dried berries.
When I haven't been able to get hold of maple syrup I've also tried it with golden syrup, treacle and agave nectar (varying the quantities as appropriate) and it all works!

This is my everyday breakfast with almond milk. I don't use the coconut as I don't like it and I don't use sesame seeds I substitute them for roughly chopped almonds and use dried cranberries. I also use gluten free oats and it tastes amazing, I love it a bit crunchy but after soaking in the almond milk it turns a bit chewy. I make this every week keep it in a air tight container and just take out a bowl full every weekday morning. Yummy.

Wonderful and addictive! Substituted maple syrup with a blend of over ripened banana, apricot purée, 2 tbs melted butter and 2 tbs honey. Used chopped hazelnuts instead of almonds. A subtle taste of banana added to the final taste of this great snack. Packed in small zip-bags can taken to work or anywhere for a small refreshment.

Lovely granola. I added some apple juice in place of all the maple syrup and used some butter cooking spray with the fruit for the last 10 mins. Didn't pre-soak seeds and have a perfect granola which has remained in clumps...looking forward to breakfast!

Awesome granola recipe,I swapped the sesame seeds for sunflower seeds ,added some pecan nuts ,and followed dalyls tip on adding an egg white .

Beautiful granola. Popped in different seeds and nuts because they were what I had to hand but it was lovely. I left it in for about forty minutes before I added the dried fruit to make it that extra bit crunchy. Would like to figure out how to make it a bit clumpy also!

P.S. Figured out how to make it clumpy since I made my first batch - you mix an egg white or two into the mixture before baking and it binds it. Have my second batch in the oven now and am looking forward to the delicious clusters!

Made this last night. I have a nut allergy so took out all nuts and added extra seeds. I also left it in the oven for about 10 mins longer for extra crunchiness. Enjoying my first portion this morning - the result is delicious!

As I said in a previous comment (which wasn't approved for some reason) it is best to soak nuts and some seeds for 12-24 hours prior to using for granola, and that way you'll also get a more chewy consistency if you adapt the granola to make health bars by adding dates

This is a lovely recipe but I used 3 tablespoons of honey and 3 tablespoons of maple syrup this time and that was plenty, may even reduce further next time

Strictly speaking nuts and seeds should always be soaked for 12-24 hours, then drained thoroughly before being used to make Granola

Make this for my kids and serve it with Greek yoghurt and a squeeze of Agave nectar, they absolutely love it, so much better then Sugar Puffs! It's quick and easy to make, I do it while washing up, it's a firm favourite at breakfast time.

I notice that a comment later than mine has been approved indicating that these threads are being monitored, and yet you didn't allow my comment regarding soaking nuts and seeds? Why is that then?

I'm allergic to nuts but simply added some brown linseeds (25g), and an extra 25g each of sunflower and pumpkin seeds instead of the nuts. I'm not a fan of overly sweet things so used all honey (cheapest store brand of clear) and added some cinnamon and about 35g of 60% good quality dark chocolate (just from Lidl). Added the chocolate and mixed fruit at the 2nd stage. It tastes wonderful and will certainly be a great treat in the mornings! The honey makes it clump less but worth it. Think I could add some bananas or strawberries with it when I have them in the house, but this is certainly a good fibre boost, gives a portion of fruit and a nice nut free breakfast!
