  • 1 red onion, finely chopped

  1. Heat the oil in a pan, then add the onion, garlic, celery and chilli. Cook gently for 5-10 mins until soft.

  2. Up the heat and throw in your beef mince. Cook until just coloured, then add the Worcestershire sauce, red wine or stock and tinned tomatoes. Slowly cook the bolognese for 30 mins-1 hr – depending how much time you have, but longer will taste better.

  3. Boil some water, add in your pasta and cook according to pack instructions. Drain, then throw the pasta into the pan with the sauce and mix it all together. Dish up and serve with lashings of grated cheese over the top. Heaven!

Both me and my hubby are spag bol fans so this is a regular in our house and theres always enough to stick an extra tuppaware full in the freezer for another day or for lunch the next day. I add in mixed peppers, mushrooms, celery, spag bol oxo cube and a normal beef oxo cube, few drops of hot pepper sauce, lots of basil, bay leaf, bouquet garni sachet, red onion and lots of garlic... Mhmmmm :)

I followed the recipes almost entirely except right at the end I topped it with mashed potato (I have a glut of spuds at home!) instead of serving with pasta. It went in the oven for 20 mins after the cooking instructions as above and came out lovely. Was really enjoyable and will definately make again either with pasta or as a pie type dish.

Great recipe but I made spag bol with it instead and the portions were a bit stingy for four. AM sure it would stretch farther if made with penne instead tho. Threw in a few Bay leaves while simmering. Lovely

A lovely variation on a family staple. My family especially enjoyed this dish and the children didn't even mind the chillies.

Very nice, quick and easy to do. I used Quorn mince as a meat free alternative and it was delicious. Went down well in our house!
Odd choice of name though..Bloody Mary = Vodka in my book.

We took this recipe to Turkey with us -made it there and it was great. Got home last night and made it again, quick and easy to make and tastes great. Not sure about the name though, as no vodka in it! We didn't use celery, but added spring onion and chopped red peppers. A great quick and easy recipe and with what's left over makes a great hot or cold lunch for work!
