Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3-4 garlic cloves finely chopped
  • 2 * 400g chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp Demerara sugar
  • 1 tsp basil
  • salt and pepper

Method

  • STEP 1
    heat 1 tbsp olive in large non stick pan, brown mince and drain excess fat
  • STEP 2
    remove mince from the pan, heat remaining oil, add onions and garlic soften for 3 minutes.
  • STEP 3
    add mince to pan along with tomatoes, puree, sugar, basil, salt and pepper and mix well
  • STEP 4
    bring to a simmer, cover and cook for 50 minutes or longer if you can
  • STEP 5
    taste add more seasoning if it needs it serve with pasta, salad or jacket pot
