Ingredients

  • 200g (7ozs) stork
  • 75g (3ozs) sugar
  • 175g (6ozs) plain flour
  • 25g (1oz) cocoa
  • 50g (2ozs) cornflakes
  • Optional:
  • Chocolate icing and a walnut to decorate

Method

    1. Cream butter and add sugar together using an electric beater.
    2. Add flour and cocoa beat together, lastly add cornflakes beat together.
    3. Grease a baking tray, and place a small golf ball sized ball of the mixture on the tray, then flatten with the back of a spoon.
    4. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 180C, leave to cool.
    5. Once cool can ice with chocolate icing and a walnut, but I prefer not to!

This is a classic NZ recipe. The biscuits must be made with butter, iced with a rich chocolate icing and topped with half a walnut. They're NOT Afghans if you omit those steps.

Used unsalted butter instead of "stork", and only had 40g cornflakes left. I liked the crunch from the cornflakes but didn't like the way each mouthful turned to dust. Wouldn't make again.
