  • 400g penne
  • 200g bag shredded kale

A member of the cabbage family, kale comes in two forms: kale, which has smooth leaves, and…

  • 100g streaky bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium red onion, finely sliced

Onions are endlessly versatile and an essential ingredient in countless recipes. Native to Asia…

  • 100g soft mild goat's cheese
  • grated Parmesan, to serve (optional)

Parmesan is a straw-coloured hard cheese with a natural yellow rind and rich, fruity flavour. It…

  1. Boil the pasta in salted water. Add the kale for the final 2 mins, then drain, reserving a little of the cooking liquid.

  2. Meanwhile, dry-fry the bacon in a nonstick pan until crisp. Remove from the pan and drain off most of the fat, leaving behind about 1 tsp. Gently fry the onion in the fat for 2-3 mins until soft.

  3. Tip the cooked pasta and kale into the pan, then stir through the bacon and goat’s cheese. Add a little of the pasta cooking water if the mixture seems a bit dry. Serve in bowls scattered with grated Parmesan, if you like.

Great but the recipe calls for twice as much pasta as is required - I added cherry tomatoes and pesto, and swapped bacon for gammon steak ... plus this was even nicer cold for lunch the following day.

Both me and my boyfriend loved this dish! I added a few dollops of leftover cream cheese, as well as a bit of green pesto, a few salad tomatoes from the garden and some pine nuts. Yum!

Made as a "user-upper", I never expected it to be quite so tasty. I had to use Cheddar instead and I also added some fresh green chilli for a warm kick. Black pepper to serve and it was delicious. The kale soon shrinks down (was uncertain about using all of it but it worked), a healthy addition of dark greens. Melds together surprisingly well and the bacon adds enough salt so don't over salt it. Will definitely be making again with the suggested cheese.

A tasty winner with the family! Quick, easy and a really nice flavour.

We really enjoyed this dish! At first I thought there wouldn't be enough goats cheese (I love cheese) but 100g was just right and Tesco did a perfect 100g for only 99p! I also used about half the amount of Kale and a bit more bacon. This dish is just so that you can choose to use as much or as little as you like according to your taste buds. I will definitely be making this again. Yum yum

Very tasty dish and simple to make. I couldn't get kale so I bought a bag of shredded cabbage and leeks, worked perfectly! Exactly the right amount for 4 people. Will be making this regularly from now on.

Quick and tasty, melted down hard goats cheese with a bit of milk as I bought hard instead of soft goats cheese but it still worked ok.

Great recipe. Used some left over Ricotta cheese and it all went down a treat.

Suggestions instead of kale? Savoy cabbage perhaps?

Had some Thyme in the fridge so added that and some peas - it was great!

My daughter recommended this recipe after making it herself & we found it absolutely delicious. I added extra red onion & a few more rashers of streaky bacon. A really quick & easy dish to make & one that you can't go wrong with

Everyone loved this dinner. I knew my 6 year old wouldn't eat it as she is not a cheese lover, so instead of goats cheese, I stirred in soft cheese to hers. Empty plates all round!!
