Easiest ever white sauce

BBC Good Food's easiest ever white sauce recipe is perfect for your favourite cheesy dishes. Treat your macaroni cheese to a punchy cheddar treat

Points to remember:

  • Put 500ml milk, 50g plain flour and 50g butter into a saucepan.
  • Put the saucepan on the hob over a medium heat and whisk continuously until the butter melts and the sauce is thickened and smooth.
  • Season with salt and pepper then use in your recipes.
  • Add grated cheese and pour over macaroni or use in a cauliflower cheese recipe, or add a handful of chopped parsley and serve with fish.

I tried this method by putting the milk and butter in first! I then brought it to simmer (Just so that the butter was melted.) Then I added the flour and some cheddar cheese, gorgeously amazing!
