a fantastic cookie recipe, these delicious cookies are almost cakes, with a lovely soft texture that melts in your mouth, you will have the adults and children coming back for more!!!

  • 200g softened butter
  • 300g soft brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 300g self raising flour
  • 80g cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 300g choc chips


    1. preheat oven to 180 c/ gas 4
    2. cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then beat in vanilla extract and eggs
    3. in a separate bowl sift flour, cocoa and baking powder together
    4. add flour mix to the creamed mix in stages( a third at a time) mix well. fold in choc chips until just combined.
    5. spoon a tablespoon of the mixture on to a baking tray and just let it drop off the spoon, repeat until you have used up all the cookie mixture.
    6. bake in preheated oven for 12 minutes, when you remove the cookies from the oven they will still be soft, leave to cool completely on the baking tray, where they will continue to cook slightly,when completely cold move to a cooling rack. then enjoy Mmmmmmmm.

Brilliant recipe! Made these today and the whole family loved them! I substituted the chocolate chips for a handful of hazelnuts.

Yummy, just like M&S!!! Despite having a reputation for yummy cakes and ginger biscuits, ive never made cookies before!! This recie was super easy although I swapped a third of the chocolate chips for dried cranberries. I also used dark and white choc chips. The outcome was truly yummy and I need never go to m&s ever again as these taste the same if not better.

Really delicious cookies! So chewy and delicious! Made these with my 5 year old and she could do most herself (we use a stand mixer for creaming and beating) We didn’t have enough cocoa so I just used a little more flour instead and had standard choc chip cookies. I also used 100g less of the choc chips but that’s just a personal preference it could probably have taken the extra 100g :) Will definitely use this again!

Really good cookie recipe, makes really rich gooey chocolate cookies. The recipe makes loads, but they're so good they don't last. Sometimes I half the recipe (mostly so my kid doesn't end up eating 20+ cookies in 24h!!) I've also made ginger ones by omitting the cocoa and chocolate chips and adding 2tsp ginger powder and 4 bits of stem ginger in syrup (chopped up).

Amazing recipe. Tastes just like the subway cookies! Soft and only need to be baked for around 13 mins! I put white chocolate in it too so it wasn’t as heavy! Great recipe!

made these cookies for a charity bake sale and sold out very quickly!!!the instructions were really easy to read and were very clear. the tasted delicious and will definatley be using this recipe again

Lovely biscuits. I missed the reviews that said to add a little milk so my mixture was quite dry but that didn’t affect the finished result. I got 23 fairly large biscuits from the mixture & had to cook them in two batches. I used white & dark chocolate chunks from bars of chocolate. I also have fan oven so cooked them for 12 minutes on 160 degrees. Everyone loved them, soft,chewy & very chocolate. I will definitely make these again.

These are so simple to make and taste AMAZING. We make these often in my house! Usually use chic chunks rather than chips. Today going for an Easter twist and trying broken up mini eggs. Mmm smelling yummy.

I baked these for 11 minutes as I wanted them as soft and chewy as possible. They also tasted great after freezing a batch. Didn't take long to thaw.

Can you use margarine (e.g. Stork) to make these or does it need to be butter?

Absolutely love this recipe! For those who like me can’t buy self-raising flour: I add 2 tsp of baking powder per 150g of flour, so 4 tsp for 300g and the rest that’s required in this recipe. I thought at first that it was way too much, but they turn out great! Also: I add just a splash of milk to the mix before I put in the chocolate because the dough seems a bit crumbly otherwise.

These are so yum! I cooked in the oven for 10 minutes as mine is quite efficient and have some lovely cookies! I didn’t have any chocolate chips but they taste amazing without them - I thought they might be dry but they’re not! Highly recommend!

I used 200g of Milk Choc and 200g of White and sliced into chunks and when I've mixed all the ingredients together I just break off chunks of the dough and roll in my hands making them taller than wide and then place on the baking tray for 11 minutes. They are ultra thick and yummy. I usually freeze some as well. Don't take long to thaw and they taste great!

If you want to double the mix I would go for; 400g butter 550g sugar 2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 3 eggs 600g flour any type 110g cocoa powder 1tsp baking powder 450g choc chips Thanks :-)

I just finished making this recipe, my cookies turned out exceptionally well I would like to point out that it is better if you use regular flour like that it is less like a cake texture. I definitely recommend this recipe for chocolate lovers, as I used regular flour the texture was more hard and crunchy inside. I would definitely would make this again.

I made these today. I used plain flour instead of self raising as I didn't want a crumbly cookie. I wanted them not to fall apart which I thought may happen if they had more cake like texture. They are so yummy! Crunchy outside goofy inside! Perfect. I used Cadbury coca rather than supermarket branded. Battery is no way rollable so I just scupt out balls with a spoon. They still grew outwards loads we got about 25 large cookies

Chocolate chip alternative: ~ If you want to save some money, buying cheap chocolate bars and cutting them up into chunks works just as well as chocolate chips. Also you might find chunks of chocolate more appealing. ~ I use 100g white chocolate and 100g milk chocolate instead of chocolate chips. White chocolate looks good in them. Chocolate powder: ~ If you think 80g is alot to use of your beloved green and blacks etc, using 50g still works fine. Milk: ~ You can add a tablespoon or two of milk if you think it looks dry, however, in my experience if it looks a bit crumbly like the texture of old fashioned rusk mixture, they still come out fine. Batch amount: ~ If you use a dessert spoon you can use a relatively small amount and pat the mixture out to circles. I currently can get between 30-35 cookies from this recipe on BBC good food. I originally began with managing about 20. Long as the width is like you would normally do, a smaller height, from patting, does not matter too much to the final cooked cookie size. You'll manage to do trial and error and get a decent cookie size and decent batch of 30+ eventually, I am sure!

Instead of 80g of coco powder you can use 100g of dark chocolate. Melt it in the microwave with a little bit of butter and add in before the flour mix. Make a way chocolatiery (not a word) cookie!
