A basic stand mixer, there’s not a lot to separate this from the Wilko model. The bowl, at 3.5L capacity, is a bit smaller, but the machine offers more speed settings (eight in total).
The casing is at the cheap-and-cheerful end of the scale, although a notch up from Wilko’s. Although it’s cased in hard plastic rather than metal, the main hinge was flush, and the main control dial illuminated.
Although there’s a little bit of movement when taking on heavier mixes, it does combine everything nicely, if more slowly than the others mixers we tested.
Whisking egg whites took longer than most other machines, but they were nicely airy, and our pavlova meringue was a success. The pulse function came in handy for adding ingredients to mixes and the ratchet dial rotated to the maximum speed with us still being able to hold a conversation.
Mixing cake batter, we noticed some dry ingredients weren’t caught by the beaters, which meant stopping the machine to scrape these back into the bowl. Small interruptions like this are to be expected when using an economy model, and we think it fared pretty well, considering. We’d recommend it for occasional bakers or those just starting out in the kitchen.
