George Home non-stick forged aluminium frying pan (24cm)
Pros: incredible value, adaptable heat, efficient non-stick, lightweight, versatile
Cons: small surface area, uneven cooking
Hob type: all
Star rating: 4/5
We were slightly blown away with the performance and value of this cheap-as-chips frying pan from George Home, a runaway winner amongst the supermarket brands in our non-stick frying pan review.
Although the stainless steel handle feels hollow and light, the pan itself is sturdy and well-engineered, with a thick aluminium base that performed consistently above average across our tests, including when tossing ingredients.
The pan heated quickly and maintained temperature well while also reacting quickly to adjustments, which is perfect for managing heat when cooking omelettes and pancakes.
However, it did seem that one side of the pan was hotter than the other. Equally, it didn't seem to have as much intensity as some of the pricier models, though the difference here was subtle.
It has a smaller overall cooking surface than some of its competitors, but is suitable for most jobs. Equally, it fits all the usual basic criteria, being ovenproof and dishwasher safe, induction compatible, and covered by an extensive warranty.
The aluminium non-stick coating did its job and was also resistant to scratching from sharper metal utensils. The base has an unusual honeycomb pattern that will mark most things you cook, and although it's hard to tell if this aids the non-stick, it certainly didn't affect the process.
Performing above average across the board and with serious versatility, this humble pan from the ASDA brand would be at home in anyone's kitchen – and for under £10, it really is a steal.
