Method

  1. Bring a large pan of water to the boil and cook the spaghetti following pack instructions. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan and cook the bacon for 3-4 mins until just starting to crisp. Stir in the onion and cook for another 3-4 mins, then add the garlic and smoked paprika, and cook for 1 min more.

  2. Pour in the chopped tomatoes, bring to the boil and bubble for about 5 mins until thickened, stirring every so often to stop it catching on the bottom. Drain the pasta and toss with the sauce. Serve with Parmesan, if you like.

Having noticed the comments about it being bland, I doubled the amount of onion, garlic and smoked paprika. The rest of the family aren't keen on chilli, which would have been my choice of addition. The result was surprisingly tasty, and got the thumbs up from all.

This was far too plain for my liking - even with the addition of mushrooms and an extra clove of garlic.

I added 1tsp of chilli powder and 1/2tsp chilli flakes. Still couldn't really taste much over the tomatoes.. Might add more paprika next time!

Great with a little bit of chilli added to for an extra kick. Don't restrict this to just spaghetti, any pasta shapes will do.

A real crowd pleaser! Very simple and quick to make but the flavour is great. The smoked paprika really lifts the sauce.
