Method

  1. Cook the spaghetti in a large pan of boiling salted water according to pack instructions. Meanwhile, make the sauce. Heat the oil in a medium pan and cook the garlic for 1 min. Add the chilli flakes, tomatoes and sardines, breaking up roughly with a wooden spoon. Heat for 2-3 mins, then stir in the olives, capers and most of the parsley. Mix well to combine.

  2. Drain the pasta, reserving a couple of tbsp of the water. Add the pasta to the sauce and mix well, adding the reserved water if the sauce is a little thick. Divide between 4 bowls and sprinkle with the remaining parsley.

This was nice...but next time I'll make it with tinned mackerel instead of sardines...don't like crunchy bones in my pasta!

No one in our family of 5 liked this (even my hubby who loves fish!). All ended up in the bin!

Devoured by 4, 6 and 9 year olds. Added extra olives but only because the kids love them

I've been putting off making this as I thought sardines would overpower the whole flavour and I wasn't sure about them going with pasta. However, hubby persuaded me to give it a go. I made it with canned mackerel in tomato sauce instead of sardines and halved the recipe for 2 (bar the garlic which I still used 2 cloves) and I was very surprised with the result. Will definitely be making this again as a quick meal.

This has turned out to be one of my very favourite recipes. I halved the ingredients as I was just cooking for two but I still used 2 garlic cloves. Also I didn't have any parsley so I used coriander instead. What a fabulous meal ! And it's cheap, quick healthy and only 495 calories
