  1. Brown the mince in a non-stick pan for a few mins, then tip into a bowl. Whizz the onions in a food processor until finely chopped (or roughly grate if you don’t have one). Tip into the pan with the oil, then cook for 2-3 mins until soft. Add the spices, cook for 1 min. Return the mince to the pan with the tomatoes and stock, then bring to a boil. Simmer for 20 mins.

  2. Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6 and spoon the mince into an ovenproof dish. Arrange the baguette slices over the mince, then bake for 12 mins until the bread is crisp on top.

Very tasty and a great new way to have mince. Didn't use all the stock though, otherwise I think it might have been a bit too watery.

ive followed the recipeas it says (barring the onion bit, coz some evil bugger used mine, so added peas instead), its currently in the oven now. smells divine atm. i added a tad bit of garlic to the mince for flavour, and hopefully the recipe will come out great. it smells so good right now though....

This was fantastic! I had my husband licking the bowl out! The in-laws loved it too! I added some kidney beans as other reviewers did and it bulked the recipe out nicely! Will definitely be doing this again!

I agree with the other comments that there is too much stock in this, I added only 500ml and that was too much. I only had one onion so added a couple of sticks of celery and a carrot to the blitzer and also added a small tin of kidney beans to the mince, as well as paprika, cayenne and tomato puree. To be honest, by the time I had reduced the sauce I decided the whole dish was a bit to much of a fag to be worth it!

mmm lovely meal whilst the mince was simmering i added a bit of cornflour and it thickened the sauce lovely so when it came out of the oven it was lovely and thick and i bought extra strong garlic bread cos i love garlic lol i will certainly be making this again fantastic meal

Makes a good mid-week family dinner, quick and easy to throw together. It was rather watery, so I had it on a rapid simmer for about 35mins rather than the 20 suggested, which made it nice and thick and concentrated the flavours. If I was making it for just myself and my husband, would probably add more chilli and cumin and perhaps some paprika, and next time would try to sneak a few more veg in there for the benefit of my 7-year old!

I liked the idea of this dish as a child friendly mid-week meal, but I did add more flavour with extra cumin and chilli, and also some smoked paprika. I also added finely chopped carrots and courgettes that needed to be used up, which helped to bulk up the dish so the sauce wasn't too runny. I served it with green beans and new potatoes.
