  1. Tip all the ingredients into a large heavy-based pan and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently. Simmer for 1 hr, then bring to a gentle boil so that the mixture turns dark, jammy and shiny. Place into sterilised jars and allow to cool before covering. Will keep for 6 weeks.

Great recipe make it every year for Christmas pressies plus GF's caramelised onion chutney. With the tomato one, I cut the sugar to 175g, doubled the chillies and the paprika and used a smoked paprika rather than ordinary. Delicious.

"Will keep for six weeks." I thought preserves needed keeping for six weeks before you could eat them.

Yes easy to make, but far too sweet for us. Wont go to waste as we will blend it in with more of everything else to in effect halve the sweetness.

I made this to go with cheese and rosemary scones for my work bake off and I won! Everyone loved the chutney, though personally for me it was a little sweet. Very easy to make. Takes about 30 mins longer than the recipe states for perfect consistency.

I used home grown cherry tomatoes - did not have enough so halved the recipe ingredients leaving out cardamoms. Worked & tasted a treat

Everyone's favourite chutney out of the three made from our Autumn glut. An rich tomato flavour with hints of chilli and good wack of garlic. I'd double the amount next time as everyone wanted a jar! Fabulous with a hard cheddar. No biscuits required!

Excellent. I also added an apple, as I needed to use it up, & an extra Chilli as I like it hot. Turned out beautifully.

I tend to add some ingredients slowly when following a recipe so as to make sure it is to my taste, in this case, I found only 50g of sugar needed to be added, but I'm not a fan of sweet chutney. With the sugar reduction it makes, to my taste, an excellent chutney.

Do you refrigerate this or is it fine in the cupboard?

Thanks for your question. We'd suggest refrigerating this chutney for maximum shelf-life, especially once opened.

I posted a comment yesterday, it was shown for a while, but has now disappeared. Why would that be?

Why will this chutney only last 6 weeks, is there any way to make it last longer?

The recipe says 5 cardamom seeds, does this mean the seeds out of 5 cardamom pods?
