  • 1 x pack fish pie mix (cod, salmon, smoked haddock etc, weight around 320g-400g depending on pack size)
  • 1 tsp Dijon or English mustard
  • ½ a 25g pack or a small bunch chives, finely snipped
  • handful frozen sweetcorn
  • handful frozen petits pois
  • handful grated cheddar

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 200C/fan 180C /gas mark 6.

  2. Put 1kg potatoes, peeled and halved, in a saucepan and pour over enough water to cover them. Bring to the boil and then simmer until tender.

  3. When cooked, drain thoroughly and mash with a splash of milk and a knob of butter. Season with ground black pepper.

  4. Put 25g butter, 25g plain flour and 4 finely sliced spring onions in another pan and heat gently until the butter has melted, stirring regularly. Cook for 1 -2 mins.

  5. Gradually whisk in 400ml milk using a balloon whisk if you have one. Bring to the boil, stirring to avoid any lumps and sticking at the bottom of the pan. Cook for 3 – 4 minutes until thickened.

  6. Take off the heat and stir in 320g-400g mixed fish, 1 tsp Dijon or English mustard, a small bunch of finely snipped chives, handful of sweetcorn and handful of petits pois. Spoon into an ovenproof dish or 6- 8 ramekins.

  7. Spoon the potato on top and sprinkle with a handful of grated cheddar cheese.

  8. Pop in the oven for 20 - 25 mins or until golden and bubbling at the edges. Alternatively, cover and freeze the pie or mini pies for another time.

This was a easy popular dish with my family ,I had already cooked a bag of baby potatoes so I cut them in half and put them all over the fish pie and then the cheese on top this went down a treat and made a lovely change from mash potatoe !

This fish pie is delicious! I use 200 ml double cream & 100ml milk instead of the 300ml of milk. I also use cheddar and Parmesan on top as it gives a lovely crunchy topping. Not exactly diet food but it raises it to an easy meal you can entertain with !

I added white wine and grated cheddar cheese to this recipe which gave it a lovely taste. I also replaced the mash topping with a crumble topping using fresh breadcrumbs, porridge oats, butter and cheshire cheese cheese....Delicious :)

This has become a regular in our house. My 14mth old loves it too. A good way of getting fish into his diet and it freezes well too. I don't add cheese to the sauce, don't think it needs it. But I do use 2 bunches of spring onions to give more flavour. Oh and a really good dollop of mustard in the sauce.

No need for cheese or milk or indeed sweetcorn unless you want obese baby with later diabetes and clgged arteries. Easy to make - layer of fish, layer of spinach or other green, sprinkle black pepper and nutmeg followed by plain mash (no milk as babies are like cats they do not have a gut that copes until much older) bung dish in oven for 20 mins. I always made large dish for us and ramekin for baby son who adored this

What twaddle you speak. Perhaps your child has a slow metabolism and is overweight, and you are sensitive about it. Or perhaps you are overweight and you are projecting on to your own child. Whatever the reason, you don't know your a#% from your elbow when it comes to nutrition.

Omg, not sure how old your baby is but babies and toddlers need fat for calories for the massive growth they are doing - its not going to make them obese as part of a balanced diet. You shouldn't restrict their diet like you might your own.
