  1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a 24 x 20cm brownie tin with baking parchment. Put the butter, dark chocolate and orange zest in a non-stick saucepan and very gently melt over a low heat, stirring every now and then, until smooth – take care not to overheat it. Cool.

  2. Whisk the eggs and sugar together with an electric whisk until the mixture is pale, has doubled in volume and leaves a trail when the beaters are lifted. Gently stir into the cooled chocolate mixture. Sift over the flour and cocoa, stir in, then add the orange chocolate.

  3. Pour into the lined tin and bake for 35-40 mins. Cool in the tin, then cut into squares.

350g of sugar is INSANE. I put in 250g, and even that felt too sweet. I suggest 200g, and serve with a side of vanilla ice cream for those who might desire more sweetness. I melted butter and chocolate in the microwave to save time, and added vanilla to the final wet mix before adding flour and cocoa. I also used less cocoa than the recipe stated –– just eyeballed about a tablespoon and a half –– because, the more your dry ingredients, the less fudgy it will be. For the chopped up chocolate I used milk chocolate (not choc orange) broken into chunks (instead of dark) as I was making this for kids. But for adults I'd stick to dark choc only (doesnt have to be choc orange). I've also made this in the past with a splash of orange juice. Its a great recipe, highly recommend. Next time I'll try to make this gluten free with almond flour, and sugar-free with maple syrup. I'll also try some nut variations and see how that works.

i think you might prefer to use 100 percent chocolate instead, but keep the sugar. the texture is completely different, and less tasty, like that

One of my favourite brownie recipes, I used the orange juice to make some icing to drizzle on top too.

This recipe takes longer than expected to make as the chocolate must cool and so must the brownies before cutting, it's definitely worth it but be prepared for the longer time.

Absolutely my favourite brownies - I'll make them for dinner parties, to make friends with new colleagues, to take along to family barbecues... any excuse! The perfect blend of a crust on top and soft and squishy inside, and any leftovers freeze really well too!

These are really nice, rich brownies. I used milk choc orange as I couldn't find a dark one and it was fine. I actually made them for valentines and did icing to go on them too - this isn't needed, they're easily tasty enough on their own and the orange flavor really comes through.

So tasty swapped the usual chocolate orange for Lindt orange with almond as made for Christmas treats... gave a slightly more indulgent taste

I made these twice at the end of 2016 -once for a Christmas dinner where everyone brought an item and again for New Year away in a cottage with friends - went down excellently both times. A good tip is not to go over 100g flour so they are as soft as possible and also, you can't add enough chocolate chunks at the end - the more, the better! Enjoy.

Wow! These really are amazing - so squidy in the middle. Amazing tasting. Not overwhelming with orange but gorgeous. Will make again!! I cooked for 32 mins and left to cool in tin, was perfect

Oh my goodness, these Brownies are A.MAZ.ING! How could anyone not fall in love with these? I found that 35 minutes was a tiny bit too long for them, they weren't quite as gooey as I like. Best Brownies Ever!
