  1. Grease and line a 20cm square cake tin with baking parchment.

  2. Put the dried fruit in a mixing bowl. Add the seeds, oats and cereal, and mix well.

  3. Put the butter, sugar and golden syrup in the saucepan. Cook gently on the hob, stirring with the spatula, until the butter and sugar are melted.

  4. Remove from the heat and pour the dry ingredients into the saucepan. Mix well until all the ingredients are coated with the syrup mix.

  5. Fill the baking tin with the mixture. Use the spatula to press the mix down evenly. Bake at 160C/140C fan/gas 3 for 20 mins, then leave to cool completely before cutting into squares or fingers. Store in an airtight tin for up to 3 days – if they last that long!

Really nice recipe- very versatile! I left out seeds and hoops and used more oats and fruit. Used less sugar too, definitely didn't miss it. Look forward to using this recipe again.

I replaced the golden syrup with agave nectar but it was way too sweet for my liking...apart from that -delicious. I am definitely doing this again with half the sugar

This is a lovely quick flapjack/breakfast bar recipe. I added extra chopped pecan nuts as well as the seeds (pumpkin work well) I also used a nutty cluster type cereal in place of the mutli grain hoops (to use up what i had) You can go easy on the sugar as the golden syrup makes it sweet enough. Very pleased with the result and I will certainly be making these again.

I really enjoyed this recipe when I baked it. The bars were almost like Florentines in texture which was amazing but a bit more like dessert than breakfast! However, I have modified it a little bit for the next bake. I removed the brown sugar, halved the butter and replaced the syrup with honey. I also removed the hoops and I have made granola instead of bars. Oh my it is absolutely phenomenal. I can't walk past the container without sticking my paws in. I am making some next week for a tastes so good and yet the calories are low so it's a win-win. Thank you!

This is delicious, family loved it, makes a wonderful crunchy flapjack, just the way they like it! Will definitely make this again. I used craisins for the fruit, worked nicely. That is what I love about flapjack, just pop in what ever you have in the cupboard and it nearly always works.

I made this for school lunch boxes - they kept well for 5 days. Used apricots and chopped crystallized ginger for the fruit part and pumpkin seeds. Can see making these many times.
