  • 2 cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground mixed spice
  • 50g sultanas
  • 4 sheets filo pastry
  • 25g low-fat spread (we used Flora Light), melted


  1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Place the apples, sugar, mixed spice and sultanas in a saucepan with 2 tbsp water and cook, covered, for 6 mins or until the apples are soft, stirring once or twice. Tip into a shallow dish and spread out to cool slightly.

  2. Cut the sheets of filo in thirds lengthways, then brush lightly with the melted spread. Place a spoonful of the apple filling at the top of each strip, then fold over and over to form triangular parcels. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 mins until crisp and golden. Serve with low-fat yogurt, if you like.

I used pear instead of apple, I added ginger, pimento and nutmeg into the mix. I used the wrong pastry and they did not come out as triangles BUT I had a lot of fun making them and they tasted good!

I made these samosas and they turned out really well - very tasty, although not the prettiest samosas I've ever seen! Well, it was my first time working with filo pastry! :o) Even more enjoyable knowing that they are fairly low in fat :o) daiisyclews - quick question if I may - did you still use 50g of granulated sweetener, or did you use less? Thanks!

sorry should point out used splenda instead of sugar and didnt butter the pastry so lower in cals and fat too :D

these were fabulous, a doddle to make and very impressive to serve, so tasty, served witha dollop of vanilla ice cream, yum yum

I misread the recipe and bought puff pastry instead of filo pastry, but they turned out just as good :D light, flaky and nice and moist in the middle :)

Absolutely delicious! Loved by everyone. Appearance is improved by brushing top of parcels with small amount of sugar water before cooking. delicious with a good quality vanilla ice cream.
