  • 400g can chickpea, rinsed and drained
  • garlic clove, chopped
  • handful of flat-leaf parsley or curly parsley
  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • toasted pitta bread
  • 200g tub tomato salsa, to serve
  • green salad, to serve
  • 1 small red onion, roughly chopped


  1. Pat the chickpeas dry with kitchen paper. Tip into a food processor along with the onion, garlic, parsley, spices, flour and a little salt. Blend until fairly smooth, then shape into four patties with your hands.

  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan, add the burgers, then quickly fry for 3 mins on each side until lightly golden. Serve with toasted pittas, tomato salsa and a green salad.

Easy-peasy, would leave slightly chunkier next time. Salsa really lifted the dish.

The best falafel I've tasted. I halved the recipe intending to have it for an evening meal and lunch tomorrow, however I ended up eating them all! I found the mix quite sloppy and frying them didn't seem to work, they were too mushy. I put them in the oven for 20 mins at 190deg, they ended up golden brown and crispy on the outside whilst soft inside. I stuffed them into a toasted wholemeal pitta with rocket salad, tomato, avocado slices and a squeeze of salad cream. Yum yum

I loved them, and so did my anti-veg boyfriend! Interested in trying a few of the suggestions to give them an extra 'kick'. I used a mix of coriander and parsley which was nice

We decided to serve with homemade salsa and a yoghurt based sauce that had mint, jalapeno pepper and lemon. Although my husband & I actually found these patties a little bland. They need a little something else or more spice - not sure what. I didn't change a thing from the recipe and I'm surprised at all the rave reviews. I will say they were easy to prepare and once we put some toppings on they were good, but taste of the patties could be better!

The mixture for the falafel turned out far too liquid, it was almost unusable. I persisted, ending up making something that resembled a falafel omelet. This tasted bland and a little bitter. Terrible.
