Following others' advice and what I have on hand I tweaked the recipe a little and it turned out amazingly good. I browned an onion and a yellow pepper, then added two cans of chopped tomatoes and about a teaspoon of dried rosemary. Let that simmer for about a quarter of an hour and then poured into pan with meatballs and baked. After 20 minutes I added the cheese ( I just has one ball but it was fine) but no bread as I didn't have any. I served it over whole wheat pasta. Absolutely fantastic.

Awesome dish. You can also hide veg within the bake. Everybody loves it!

Great easy recipe if you're short of time, went down a storm with the family. No effort at all, good one for older children to make on their own. Going to make it again tonight but couldn't find tinned cherry tomatoes in our Tesco, previously got them in Sainsbury's, so I've got plum tomatoes instead which I will chop into big chunks. Will hopefully be ok!

Really liked this. I did however use 1 tin of chopped toms and 1 small jar of Mediterranean veg pasta sauce. Couldn't get any focaccia so used ciabatta. I think done without the bread and mixed with cooked pasta it would make a nice bake.

I made this last night to a rapturous family. Additionally, I made a vegetarian version using Quorn meatballs. For the meat version, I used Costco beef meatballs and followed the advice by browning the meatballs first and adding lightly dry fried onion. Because I made 2 dishes with only 2 cans of cherry tomatoes, I added passata, sugar & seasoning to the mix. Sainsburys didn't have rosemary bread so I used their onion and cheese bread instead - very very nice :)

Delicious, maybe would have browned off the meatballs first but they were still good. Added some tomato passatta as well and it was a bit sloppy so needed some thickening with cornflour. Big hit with all the family.
