  1. Heat the olive oil in a heavy-based pan (preferably not non-stick) and add the sausages. Fry for about 8 mins until golden and cooked through. Tip in the garlic and fry for 1 min. Pour in the white wine and boil until it has reduced by half.

  2. Stir in the tomato purée and tomatoes, and season to taste. Simmer for 15 mins until the sauce is rich and thick.

  3. While the sauce cooks, boil the pasta according to pack instructions and drain. Stir in the basil if using, and cooked pasta into the sauce, then serve in bowls with grated or shaved Parmesan.

I decided for the first time I would actually follow a recipe...but unfortunately this recipe did need some improvisation as it was a bit boring. Its a good base idea, but I think red wine is far better for a red/ tomato sauce, so I decided to add this after I followed the recipe- probably about 1 small glass. I also found it was quite vinegary- this may have been my poor quality tinned tomatoes or the poor quality white wine, but to balance it out I added a fair bit of salt and pepper and a teaspoon of sugar. I also added some cayenne pepper and paprika and some sundried tomatoes. In total the sauce simmered for about 30 mins and I ended up with a really nice thick and rich tasting sauce. I also added some broccoli with the pasta to add a bit of colour.

Really basic sauce but still tasty and easy to vary by adding chillis, changing sausages or popping in extra veg.

i made this for dinner and it as very nice. usually i can't get my son to eat sausages but he loved this dish. I will be cooking this one again

This is a tasty, quick and easy pasta that went down well with everyone. I made it without the parmesan, so it wasn't as nice as it could have been. But for a no-fuss-to-make dish, it is one of my favourites!

Cooked this the other day and absolutely loved it! Like others, I added some paprika and chilli flakes, but other than that kept everything the same. Gorgeous! Have cooked the sauce on its own and frozen in batches to use as a pasta sauce when I fancy it. Give it a try :)

This was okay - it almost tasted like a base sauce. I think, as others have said, if I were to make it again, I would add some chilli and, perhaps, some fennel and I would use red wine instead of white, as it was a bit acidic (although that may have been the wine I used!). My kids loved it though.

This was a really nice recipe. Used 6 sausages and a chorizo, also added some peppers, a chilli and some fresh tomatoes as needed using up. The sauce was delicious, will definately make again.

Absolutely delicious. We did, however, double the sausages and halve the pasta. This is a keeper.
