  1. Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5. Rub the flour, sugar and butter together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Alternatively, you can do this in the food processor. Add enough egg to bring the mixture together to form a stiff dough.

  2. Flour your hands and shape the dough into a tube, about 5cm in diameter. Cut into 2cm-thick slices and place on a large baking sheet. Space them out as the mixture will spread when baking.

  3. Make a small indentation in the middle of each slice with the end of a wooden spoon, and drop a tsp of jam in the centre. Bake for 10-15 mins until slightly risen and just golden. Cool on a wire rack.

My non baking daughter made these today for post nativity tea and they were so good I have to make them myself. I wonder if they would be good with the addition of cumin and raspberry rather than strawberry jam

Made these for my hubby and I tonight, they came out really well. I made them too thick so they took about 30 minutes to cook haha. Will definitely be making them again :-).

Just made these biscuits and they are really simple and easy to make. Very few ingredients and came out great. They taste very yummy. I did add some vanilla extract for a bit of extra flavor and glad that I did as might have been too bland otherwise :) Easy to change and use different ingredients instead of the jam, chocolate spread, lemon curd and will this next time. One thing I did find as well that the mixture was quick sticky and not easy to roll and slice so just broke equal bits off and mounded with my hand and made the indentation with my finger for the jam - this worked well.

Love these biccies-so easy to make and the perfect sweet "hit" to go with a cuppa! If they go a bit too soft the next day, you can pop them in the over for a few minutes again.

A brilliant basic recipe. Very quick and easy to make. I made these with my 20 month old son so I rolled the dough out and cut shapes out with cookie cutters. They took 12 mintutes in my oven. I will be making these again, maybe try them with lemon curd as suggested.

Tasty but I was really disappointed as the biscuits were spongy. Also, they did not slice easily and had to be rolled into balls and squashed into circular shapes. I'm interested in finding a crunchier biscuit recipe.

Delicious biscuits! Took me a while to make seeing as I am only a newbie to this whole baking business. The instructions were good. Only problem was they all stuck together, I don't know whether that was because the recipe said to make them 2cm thick or if it is my fault by trying to fit them all onto the tray perhaps not leaving enough space! They look awful when I took them out of the oven, took me a good 20 minutes trying to fix them up by using a knife to give them the proper shape and also adding extra jam as there wasn't enough. In the end they looked fine and tasted amazing! My mom loves them too. I added a bit of milk, not sure whether that was a good idea because they turned out slightly moist, but crunchy on the outside. I like them like that, but maybe other people prefer the more "biscuit crunch." Yes, I agree with someone else here that extra flavour could be added. I really like the coconuts idea and will try that next time!
