What’s in the January-March 2020 cases?
Reds case
What better way to enjoy the pleasures of a good winter menu than with some food-friendly reds? Leading the way is The Great Bonza, a double Gold medal winning Shiraz blend from south eastern Australia. There’s also a Californian Zinfandel that’s full of flavour and a top choice with spicy dishes such as jerk chicken. Europe still excels at superb reds, and Portugal is home to some of the best. Cabra Cega has two Golds medal and delightfully fruity length. The herby Minervois will be at its best with sausages, whilst Spanish treat Vinas del Vero is full of dark cherry, violets and vanilla – yummy. We finish with a rich, plummy Italian red that will go with any tomato-based dish.
Whites case
The most enticing way to wake up your taste buds has to be with this delicious mix of refreshing whites. Start off with Gold medal winner Matervitae I Classici, a vibrantly fruity white that’s ideal with any kind of fish or perhaps a mushroom risotto. From Italy’s cooler north, there’s a fresh, aromatic white with delicious purity of fruit. France holds its own with a zesty Chenin Blanc, and if you want a little effervescence in your life, enjoy the Tres Cantou for its delicate natural spritz. There’s a honeyed Viognier from South Africa and to complete the case, a pink grapefruit and passionfruit-filled Sauvignon, from glorious Nelson in New Zealand – right next door to Marlborough, but with even more sunshine!
Mixed case
This exciting selection of wines is sure to put a spring in your step, starting with double Gold medal winner The Great Bonza, a rip-roaring Aussie red full of juicy blackcurrants and vanilla. The herby Roc Saint Constant Minervois will add a delicious warmth to winter casseroles, and the fruity Spanish red will complement all manner of food, not least sausages and mash. For the whites, there’s an aromatic Italian that would fit the bill with fish and chips, a crisp, honeyed South African Viognier that’s just sublime with spicy fare and last but not least, a grapefruit passionfruit-filled New Zealand Sauvignon from sunny Nelson, next door to Marlborough.
