The new BBC Good Food logo: Explained

BBC Good Food is a well-loved brand that's been helping the world cook for 25 years. With an audience from all generations and all walks of life, our brand means something different to everyone. To reflect this, we worked with Lambie-Nairn to give our new logo a chameleon personality. The new branding will run across the BBC Good Food magazine, website, social media, literature, consumer products and events - bringing us all together under one new look.

So, what was the thinking behind the design?

Sketches of logoIt took a long time to decide on the new logo and we considered a host of different possibilities before we arrived at the solution. We wanted a logo that united all our different formats and platforms, but we also wanted to keep the feeling of heritage that is integral to what we do. We’ve chosen fonts that reflect this.

The creative for the new logo has a fun, playful tone, with a sneaky hidden smile placed in the ‘g’. Can you see it?

We hope you like our new branding as much as we do. Here's what our Creative Director, Elizabeth Galbraith had to say:

Good Food logo

The simplicity of the logo design is both deceptive and part of its success. From a broad and demanding brief Lambie-Nairn has produced a versatile, recognisable and beautiful new identity for BBC Good Food. The new look brings a confident and contemporary visual purpose to our brand. The identity is fit for the multiple platform media demands in the development of the brand.”

I agree with isidora thatthe all white background looks as if the page is waiting to load. I love the website and the recipes though and that's the main thing.

I have to agree I think it looked more sophisticated before the change. Sorry Good Food and designers involved, I know it takes ages to work on things like this but this time I think it missed the spot….

For me it looks as if you have forgotten to add something. The all white background looks like a webpage when the internet is very slow and the rest of the content for the page is still to be loaded. Why change something that, in essence, was already working. Still love the recipes and helpful advice though.

If I am completely honest I think it is the content of the site and not the immediate logo that captures my imagination when I am looking for inspiration. The change of font, even in its simplicity, is not at the forefront of my needs when looking for recipes. As long as the format is easy, simple in it explanations regarding the recipes and the recipes as varied and special as always I will still be Happy :)
