How to spiralize

Sophie Godwin shows you how to make the most of spiralizing, from salads to sweet potato fries.

  • There are lots of different types of spiralizer available, read our guide to buying the best spiralizer for your needs, or to get started try using an ordinary vegetable peeler to create long ribbons of fruit and veg.
  • If you’re using a table top spiralizer, chop the end off the veg or fruit and fasten it onto the pin on the end. Push with the handle as you turn. Table top spiralizers often have different attachments which allow you to make noodles in a range of thicknesses.
  • If using a pencil sharpener-style spiralizer, push the vegetable in and turn it as you would a pencil. Separate the resulting ribbons with your fingertips.
  • If you’re using a julienne peeler, carefully draw it across the fruit or vegetable in long sweeping motions, being careful not to touch the spikey blades as they’re very sharp.
