"This is a picture perfect pudding! I followed the recipe on the whole but was slightly more generous with the digestive biscuits (2 more), melted butter (20g extra) and vanilla essence. This was simply because I prefer a deeper base and like vanilla. The baking time was closer to 50 minutes than 40; however, it was well worth the wait. I would highly recommend this recipe as the result is delicious and looks great for only a small amount of effort. "

"Great recipe and really tasty. I have adapted the recipe several times - dry fried bacon lardons in a separate pan and adding them after the mushrooms have cooked and also trying a variety of mushrooms; portobello mushrooms thickly sliced work well. For very little effort and a few ingredients I think this is a really inventive and delicious recipe. "

"Very satisfying, tasty and highly recommended. The addition of a little mustard is a nice touch too (thank you BBC Good Food comments). I have also used the same quantities as stated in the recipe but prepared in individual large ramekins which has looked great as a side dish. I have served this with both pork chops and glazed ribs...delicious! "

"This is a great and economical recipe, making a little lamb go a long way. However, I have found that it is better to cook the pearl barley for 10-15 minutes in a separate pan prior to adding it to the soup otherwise it is just too firm/undercooked based on the timings stated above. I'm also not too fond of swede so tend to just do extra of the potatoes, carrots & parsnip or add some peeled and diced celeriac. I normally serve this with good chunks of wholemeal bread."
