"Top marks! Tried this recipe on my wife's folks, who like traditional-type fare. It was a smash hit! It's so easy to make and fills the kitchen with beautiful aromas whilst it's cooking. Left the toasts (which I'll try next time) and we had winter veggies & new potatoes with it instead. Used the left over sauce & veg from the roasting pan to make a tasty soup simply by blitzing in a blender and adding more stock. Yum! "

"Instant hit! Soup is a meal in itself. Used smoked bacon lardons with the onions instead of streaky. Served with homemade wheaten bread. Perfect!"

"Really, really tasty! I used butter milk instead, and the use of vintage cheddar made the flavour more intense. Mine didn't quite rise enough for me, so I'll add a teaspoon of Bicarb or an egg in future."
