"Canonic Carbonara (as I was told ;) is done with exactly these ingredients with no cream in the first place. In some places they don't use garlic. As a tip, I would recommend adding the pancetta to the pasta before the egg & parmigiano, otherwise the linguine may get too sticky. "

"Nice one! I used fresh tomatoes cooked in a pan with garlic on olive oil, added the spinach and then the gnocchi. Instead of mascarpone or mozzarella, I used gorgonzola and of course parmesan. Very tasty! "

"absolutely no cream! though not the orthodox way ;), a couple of mashed garlic cloves cooked with the gunciale are also a must in a few parts of Italy. "
