"Hmmm not very appealing if you follow the recipe exactly...although to make it much nicer, i added a chopped fried onion, crushed garlic and thickened it with some gravy granules...lovely with some buttery mash and doesnt add to the cost too much if you are on a budget :)"

"I always find these dissapear so quickly at parties i have to make triple batches! Tip to stop them falling apart is to stick them in the freezer for 30 mins prior to cooking, they firm up better i find. Not made the dip yet as have always just used chilli dipping sauce...but going to make it for my Dads 60th this week as it sounds so popular!"

"Really good way to use up leftovers, i agree with adding a little fresh chilli or our favourite - adding a few chopped fried sage leaves (works fab with the onion and bacon!) Any kind of leftover Sunday dinner meat could also be used along with veg such as broccoli or sweetcorn. Simple and quick :)"

"Easier way to do this - and added flavour! slice left over new potatoes (or tinned work just as well!!) whisk eggs with cream and seasoning and pour into a square tin to cook in the oven - no checking to see if bottom is browned!! Add other ingredients like chopped spring onions, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, cheese (goats cheese goes great with broad beans!) - anything you like! Basically this is just a quiche without pastry! Have been cooking my version with all of the listed ingredients for years and it always goes down well at parties!"

"REALLY impressed with this dish, have made it twice already, went down a storm with my partner and my parents. Didn't find it expensive at all as you can buy all the ingredients pretty cheaply in the supermarket! I added a can of butter beans and used smoked bacon lardons instead of the pancetta. It is very rich so i served it simply with crusty bread and a large glass of wine :)"
