Simmer-&-stir Christmas cake

"It has no calories at all if you eat it standing up Debs! I've just made it and it is in the oven. It smells delicious and I can't wait to try it. Easiest cake I have ever made. Thank you."

Cheeseboard & onion tart
25 comments
"I made this as part of a buffet for a family Christmas party. It was delicious and went down a treat with everyone. I used bought in frozen pastry to make life a bit easier. I used stilton, brie and Dubliner cheese. No need to add much salt as the cheese is salty enough. I used 3 eggs and half milk half cream instead of all that cream. May try leeks instead of onions next time. Can see myself making this again and again."

"Easy to make. Finished up too thick in consistency. The smell and flavour of the cheese overpowered the broccoli. Would use more stock and less cheese if I make it again."

Rhubarb spice cake

"I was also the recipient of unasked for rhubarb. How is it that people never give you whole sides of salmon or huge rib-eye steaks? Found this recipe and, following the advice of other comments, used just 200g of syrup. It turned out well and tasted great. It took about 10 mins. longer cooking than stated in the recipe. Went down well with a friend who called for a cuppa just as I was taking it from the oven. Will make again."

"I also fried off a finely chopped onion and a clove of garlic before browning the meat. I used half a teaspoon of ordinary paprika and half of hot paprika as I wasn't sure how hot it would be. I would use all hot paprika next time. Like Deano, I also cooked it in the over (about 2 hours). I served it with couscous to which I added chick peas and parsley. It was delicious."
