"Hilary - the recipe reads like any other fruit cake, so I would suggest it'll be fine sat in a dark cupboard well wrapped from now until Christmas. I plan to make mine this weekend and do just that (finishing at step 2) and then put marizipan and icing on a couple of days before we plan to eat it."

"Made this last Christmas and it was fantastic - light and moist with a great taste. This year's is currently steaming away on my hob..."

"Looked good and worked well. Made it for one and should have listened to the advice in the tip above - it reduced really quickly so wasn't really much "sauce" left to push through the sieve! Also overcooked the duck at the times stated above, would probably reduce by one min each."

"Such a simple recipe, you wouldn't believe how gorgeous it tastes when all combined. Made with two cloves of garlic and subsituted feta for goat's cheese (personal preference) and it's just delicious. To serve four, I actually use a whole KG of squash as otherwise it's a bit on the mean side. Plus I find in my oven it needs about 30 mins roasting. My non-veggie hubby adores it too."

Sherried squash soup

"Lovely soup, sweet and smooth. Made it for my sister who can't stand onion and she couldn't even tell any was in there. Does not make 4 portions though - just about got three small-ish servings out of it. If making as a lunch I'd say it serves a generous two. Made it as per recipe, without the garlic/chilli other readers mentioned and it was good enough. Can see that a bit of chilli would give a lovely kick though if making on cold nights. Will definitely make again."
