Orange & poppy seed cake with chocolate sauce
15 comments
"Great cake, very easy. I too only used 200 gms butter in cake and a tablespoon of butter in the chocolate sauce. For an even moister cake you can boil up orange juice and sugar and when it cools, tip over hot cake when it comes out of the oven (first stab small skewer holes in cake) Syrup will then seep into cake and keep it lovely and moist. Then decorate as per recipe above. Oranges can also be substituted with mandarin juice and zest."

Kerala prawn curry
47 comments
"A quick easy and delicious recipe. Accidentally picked up a bag of kaffir lime leaves instead of the curry leaves from the asian grocer, but used them anyway and it still tasted fine. Will definitely be making this one again. I have to, as the bag of black mustard seeds was so large (but still dirt cheap) that I don't want to waste them!!"

Asian aubergine & pork hotpot
48 comments
" I was looking for a recipe to use up 2 huge eggplants (aubergines) that my sister in law had given me from her veggie patch. This is well worth making, and all the other ingredients I either had on hand or picked up for next to nothing at the vietnamese supermarket nearby (always a quarter the price of the large supermarkets!) I used pork fillet (as I already had some in freezer) so didn't have to cook it as long. Worked out a very cheap, economical, yet great tasting meal. Will definitely be making again and as someone else suggested - this would go well in the slow cooker."

"Fabulous, quick recipe that tasted every bit as good as it looks. Used pork mince as butcher had run out of lamb mince. Also used chargrilled eggplant (aubergine) from deli instead of using the jar equivalent. Have copied recipe and given to the guys at work as they all love easy recipes that they can impress the wife with!! This is ideal for a large group as recipe can very easily be multiplied to suit the number you intend feeding. Will definitely be using this one again."

Walnut, date & honey cake
31 comments
"I substituted hazelnuts as didn't have any walnuts to hand. I also soaked the dates in a mixture of Glayva Liquer, Marsala wine and hot water and then drained and chopped them up. Despite an initial hiccup, I had put the butter in a warm room to soften and forgot to add it to the cake, but luckily discovered it just prior to putting the cake in the oven!!. I then had to tip everything back into the bowl, including the hazelnuts that were scattered on the top and add the butter in, however it turned out brilliant and was a great hit with all the folks at work. I was lucky enough to have some beautiful honey from a friend's beehive and drizzling it over the top just completed a wonderful moist cake. Whenever I bake something from this site I always take in the recipe as inevitably they ask for a copy. As per usual another great 'GoodFood' recipe appreciated by the folks down under. "
