"I doubled this recipe even though there's only 2 of us, so that I could have leftovers during the week. This made a very generous 4 bowls of loveliness! Like some others, I added smoked paprika and I'm glad I did because it brought the dish alive with some heat and smokiness. It was lovely to have fennel for a change, I must remember to use it more often!"

"Lush! There's only me and my hubby so I bought 4 free range chicken legs which I skinned and then followed the rest of the recipe as it was. Enough for leftovers - yay! Really tasty, great depth of flavour and perfect for a winters evening. The dumplings were so easy to make and delicious, I'll use those again in other stews and casseroles."

Orange & white chocolate sponge
80 comments
"I made this as a birthday cake for a friend yesterday and it went down a storm, even her husband who doesn't usually eat cake asked for a second piece. I wouldn't really call it a sponge as it's not as light as a sponge would be, but it was so moist and full of flavour with all the orange zest. I had trouble with the icing as I don't think I let the chocolate cool enough before adding it to the creme fraiche and it went lumpy, but after a second attempt it worked a treat. It doesn't matter that the cake doesn't rise much as others have pointed out, once you've sandwiched the 2 pieces together with the filling it looks superb!"

"I've just done a quick calculation regarding the calories (using the website Weight Loss Resources as a calorie counter) and I'm afraid it does equate to almost 1,000 cals a portion - it's 963. Chicken thights with skin on, at around 120g each, do contain 250 cals so if you were serving 2 per person that is 500 cals alone, without evening counting the chorizo which has 455 cals for 100g. You could take the skin off the chicken to lower the cals. You could also fry the chorizo first and use the oil from that instead of adding oil at the beginning to fry the chicken in. Or you could serve just 1 chicken thigh per person instead of 2. A tin of butter beans also contains about 250 cals!"
